Believe it or not there was a miners strike over 100 years ago in Scotland and the miners from the Falkitk area were still on strike, and miners were bused ( or possibly carted) in from fife and that's where some people said it stems from it was a fife thing not specifically a Dunfermline( it us now mind you)thing,apparently Falkirk fans had a banner declaring that the fifers were scabs at the 1913 cup final against Raith Rovers.

As was said, the rivalry goes way back to the 70's in football but started in the 60's when F*lkirk mobs turned up to Dunfermline Ice Rink and there were battles most Saturdays. This carried on into football as the 1970's progressed.
