In a way, yes. Think of modern day soldiers. We have infantry then special forces. Templar had similar. Bulk of templars being Infantry, medics, treasures, general security. While some were trained and taught to do more "special forces" things. These things can include defensive commanders (General templars bread and buttered learned and taught in Jerusalem), security for higher individuals, special emissary for other nations or other templar orders, bankers (first bankers of the time, very highly taught and respected), doctors mostly from the hospital templar order, siege commanders, and the list goes on and on. So the answer to your question is absolutely.
