We spent the day at the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Dambulla Cave Temple. It was hard to find the entrance as everyone knows it as the Cave Temple, but the actual name is the Golden Temple of Dambulla and has an incredible entrance that looks nothing like the photos we've seen!
This temple complex dates back to the first century BCE. The temple is composed of five caves of varying size and magnificence. The caves, built at the base of a 150m high rock during the Anuradhapura (1st century BC to 993 AD) and Polonnaruwa times (1073 to 1250), are by far the most impressive of the many cave temples found in Sri Lanka. We knew we had to visit, and we took along the camera to show you what it's like including the: Cave of the Divine King, Cave of the Great Kings and the Great New Monastery.
