I find the way that you draw your battle map interesting. It's a sort of pseudo-isometric. I really dig it.

Great video and nice to see that the story dice were interpreted without to literally.

Thanks. The company that make Rory's Story Cubes hide the "official" explanations of the symbols on their website to encourage people to go with whatever occurs to them, which is great 🙂

Stoneaxe Tabletop Gaming I liked them so much I bought every set they do from Scooby do through to Batman. I had seen people on KZbin do very literal reading when they get a watch face “you find a watch”. Clearly there are hundreds of things you can interpret from each symbol, so it’s great to see them used with more creativity.

Herringbone Tweed! Back in the game!! DCC is something I have but never really looked at to play yet. Lovely artwork too. Might just have a go for the magic system though.

The magic section makes up two fifths of the book because of all the crazy fun spell tables! 😁 The last group game with Herringbone Tweed was in August in Blood for the Serpent King where we were facing certain death. It was at a boardgame café and we had to wrap it up and were never able to finish that adventure, so as far as I'm concerned, Herringbone escaped! 😁

It's great to see Story Dice being used in Solo Roleplaying. I enjoy creating stories with Story Dice and I also plan to use them in Roleplaying. Not sure about the system, I own DCC but I plan to use something more simple, probably ICRPG, but DCC is in my plans, too.. ;)

It's a bit more complicated, but it's such a random, swingy game that I think it lends itself well for solo games, with preparation. I have the most used charts printed out and up on my GM screen. Monster crits, fumbles, and so forth.

Man the magic system seems fun. Thanks for playing a wizard.

And I didn't even cover the Mercurial Magic chart which you can roll on when you learn a new spell, which could involve fungus springing up in your immediate surroundings or stealing the spell from an extra planar entity who will try to pursue you through time and space to get its spell back 😁

DCC seems so interesting and the spells are FUN. About to pull the trigger on getting the core book and a zero level adventure funnel module and the funky dice to try a solo game like this. Since the time you’ve posted this video have you found yourself enjoying DCC and particularly solo playing the many published modules? Two things I wonder about: the funnel system I’m reading about sounds like players usually control 2-4 weak level 0 heroes each to mitigate for how brutal early funnel modules are and I wonder if playing like this will be too many to keep track of solo? Also did you enjoy this rule set for tactical grid and mini play as much as others? I enjoy mixing in skirmish tactical fights for visual appeal (especially now that I own the same battle mat book!). My hope is that it’ll be enjoyable enough to work my way through several of the highly reviewed ones solo.

So sorry i missed this comment! I hope you enjoyed it if you pulled the trigger. I'm currently running a group Mutant Crawl Classics campaign. My real life DCC group stalled over lockdown but I was able to play in a few online games with friends, including DCC Lankhmar which does away with the funnel and has 'Meet' adventures instead where your characters start at level 1. For anyone struggling to find a group the Goodman Games Discord is great, that's how I found my MCC players :-)

@@paultice ah thanks for replying and those are all great tips! If your group ever is in need of an extra player for either DCC or MCC please let me know I’d love to join you for some gaming some day :) and yes I did try out more of DCC after for solo play and had a good time with it! I’ve gotten back into board games more for solo but excited to do more RPG both solo and in groups one day too. Happy gaming!

You can only spellburn physical stats, not personality.

Yes, I flagged this up somewhere, probably in another video. Playing these adventures on the fly as player and GM is a lot of plates to spin so some things get forgotten.

In DCC Dying Earth wizards have Force of Will where they can Spellburn personality. I was ahead of my time 😁

I got my set off Amazon. They are really great for both solo and group play for producing the story behind a spontaneous adventure. Not sure where he got his set though.

I got my first set from Waterstones and the others from Amazon/eBay. I find them really useful, especially the Voyages set, and the Actions set is good for NPC motivations.

What was the little encounter book you were using is that the adventure you were using the monsters from?
@paultice

The encounters were from Table Fables II by Madeline Hale. The monster stats were from The Hounds of Halthrag Keep by Noah M. Stevens.
