Welcome back to Ask Allen About Low Carb Cocktails
Today I want to do a review of Templeton Midnight Rye and show how to make a couple of cocktails suggested by the distillery.
Templeton is a small-town distillery crafting whiskey that respects the past and is inspired by the future (according to their website). They are located in Templeton, Iowa.

The roots of whiskey in Templeton, Iowa can be traced back along family lines to the bootleggers of Prohibition. To this day, this rebellious and entrepreneurial mindset still holds true, where residents unite together under a shared rallying cry of "A Strong Community Spirit."
Templeton is best known for their Rye Whiskey. The Midnight Rye is a new release that is an American Rye Whiskey aged in first fill American Oak barrels blended with a subtle touch of dark port wine.
It comes in at 45 ABV, 90 Proof
TASTE AND COMMENTS
On the Nose: Port wine, Rye spice, slightly fruity - dark cherries & figs, mild orange peel
On the Palate: Muted Rye spice, the dark cherry comes out, the Port wine is in the background, the orange peel taste is evident.
Finish: The flavors last a while. There is no burn at all. Very mild spice with some fruitless and a hint of oak
Although this is good neat, we are going to try two cocktails suggested by the distillery:
Midnight Manhattan
• 2 oz Templeton Midnight Rye
• 1 oz Sweet Vermouth (4 g carbs)
• 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
• Garnish with a Luxardo cherry
Portside Old Fashioned
• 2 oz Templeton Midnight Rye
• 1 sugar cube (one packet of Splenda or other sugar substitute)
• 2-3 dashes Orange Bitters
• Garnish with an orange Peel or twist
So that is Templeton Midnight Rye and two cocktails featuring this unique Rye Whiskey. It is something I really enjoyed.
