Tremendous video father. This is always a concern for me. Trying to distinguish when bad thoughts for example cross into the mortal sin category. This makes me feel better and is so much more reasonable. Younger men, living at any time but especially now, there’s just so much temptation all around us. Even from our past. Thoughts, atleast for myself, can just pop into my head. Knowing active consent and enjoyment in bad thoughts is necessary for them to become mortal sins is a relief that’ll help me not descend into scrupulosity.

Thanks for your honesty man, same here. When these horrible thoughts are proposed to me, I either ask Mary, the Holy Spirit, or Jesus to pray for me and to wipe my mind clean. I just remind myself that those aren’t mine, and I don’t dwell on them.

We are called to be partakers of the divine nature, says St. Peter...God wants us to experience his freedom, the freedom of the sons and daughters of God.” I recommend 'Called to Be the Children of God: The Catholic Theology of Human Deification' edited by Meconi and Olson. @@galpinklilyempire6905 Yes, that is true, but we may partake of the divine nature (2 Pet. 1: 4). There is a new book coming out next month on this topic by Fr. Gregory Pine's fellow Dominican Fr. Andrew Hofer, 'The Oxford Handbook of Deification.' It is the traditional view of Christian salvation, still present in the Church today. God bless you!😀

St. Mark the Ascetic points out that provocation (initial stage of temptation in which the devil presents a sinful thought or idea to us) is not the result of our fallen nature, because it was experienced in Paradise by our First Parents before the fall occurred. I know that’s a pretty elementary concept, but I hadn’t considered it before reading it, and it blew my mind.

I loved this video, Father. In fact I have read of a similar concept earlier on Quora, where the writer was explaining the concept of temptation and sin by using the metaphor of honey being poured by the devil into a sleeping man's mouth, and his reaction to it would decide if it was just temptation or sin.

Uh, one is an outside force attempting to gain a foothold on the inside! The other happens when you entertain that force thereby creating a foothold on the inside for it! Temptation is not a sin, entertaining that temptation can lead to sin!

Well, sins are very important to those who have to have Communion every day.And virtues are also important for that kind of obligated people. But for us that don't have to go to the Communion more than once a year virtues and sins are not so important ,thou faith is. So,as faith is more important for the free kind of people Word of God in writed way is quite enough for everyday needs.Of course ,Masses online (adorations etc.) are very useful too , but Jesus is for sure not limited by virtues, knowledge or will of His chosen ones. So, I encourage you and everyone on the path of perfection but I don't consider virtues or sins something so important that (as it's obvious) we need to contemplate on confessed sins or be occupied by virtues and not occupied with contemplating Christ. Maybe I didn't understand well reason of this video so I have a little bit different approach to Christ, but as Jesus said:"Love (for the Word of God) erases lots of sins."

@@geo.ies93that’s cool that you like Catholicism so much, but the claim is just not true. C.S. Lewis is arguably the most famous Christian scholar of 20th century, and he was a Protestant. As someone raised in Russia, I get to enjoy reading John of Kronstadt and Grigorii Rasputin books in their original language. Deep spiritual insight is a hallmark of whole Christianity, not a particular denomination.

Thanks. I went crazy last year and had a lot of hallucinations and delusions where I thought I was hearing Jesus' voice and then the voice was cursing and cruel and I was confused into imitating it, then it got to a point where it was so creepy I freaked out and stopped trusting it, then I thought it was spiritual warfare and stuff but it wouldn't go away when I was calling out to Jesus. Turns out I was just very sick. But I felt so confused and abandoned that the sick evil voices still could confuse me so much when I was begging God for help because I wanted so badly not to offend Him. This video helped me realize that whatever my understanding was of the situation at a given time, I always was revolted by sin and I always was crying out to God to save me, and I never consented to sin unless I literally thought God was reversing all my actions/decisions like it was opposite day or something. (Which happened a lot. I REALLY went crazy lol.) Whatever way the coin flipped I always chose Jesus, which means Jesus never left me, which is a relief... I know the devil runs away from Jesus so when I thought it was the devil I felt so abandoned... I think God was proving that I don't have to have scruples anymore, I can trust Him not to leave me, even when I'm allowed to be confused I will not be allowed to choose wrong against my will. Like God makes my choice to follow Him run deeper than the part of my brain that's trying to understand and choose in the moment. Or rather He protects me when I'm too dumb or sick to choose right, I'm still a sinner. I don't think it's presumptuous to be more confident that I won't choose to sin... I hope anyways. It is so confusing.

Sometimes God permits the devils to attack humans also if they pray to Jesus. Read the terrible attacks endured also by Christian Catholic saints such as Gemma Galgani or Padre Pio or Saint Theresa from Siena. They endure something similar to what you went through, even though they prayed to Jesus a lot. In your particular case it’s possible there are two causes coexisting for what you went through, a biological problem like a mental illness and also a spiritual warfare cause. Have you found a spiritual father that can guide you through it and who you always can go to confession to? Gia bless you

@@FoundSheep-AN It was very much both. God is taking very good care of me though. I do have a really great priest who said I could do spiritual direction with him, and I'm on a few waitlists for psychiatric care, and wanted to make sure I was safe before I do something like spiritual direction that might be triggering, since the physical aspect is real. Plus I feel very peaceful and like God is taking good care of me. I believe He protects the weak and boy do I have issues lol. He has brought a lot of good out of this illness. Like my relationship with my Mom healed in a way I was beginning to think wasn't possible. She understands me so much better. Thanks so much for the reply.

I'm praying for you. I know this doesn't help, but you aren't alone. I've experienced this as well, and it ended up being a serious mental disorder. Nobody will actually understand the suffering you went through except you. It's like you don't know if it's you, your illness, or the devil. I pray you have an exceptional support system, parish priest, and a good community. I know a lot of people say that God will not give you anything you can't handle. That may be true, but sometimes, it doesn't feel that way. It's okay to fall; just let God hold you and lift you back up. God bless you, and you're in my prayers 🙏

I got some great advice from a priest once: “If you cannot put your hand on a Bible and say that you committed a mortal sin, then you did not commit a mortal sin.” Mortal sin requires full knowledge for you to be entirely culpable of it. Satan is the ultimate accuser, especially towards my fellow brethren who suffer from scrupulosity, including myself. I will continue to pray for you all and I will also continue to ask for the intercession of St. Alphonsus Ligouri, the Patron Saint of Confessors.

Ya know, I'm a born again Christian, I started off as a choir person at my friend's Methodist Church, later in highschool, I was introduced to the Boston Church of Christ where I almost got baptized, but chickened out because " something different feel right" . Before I graduated, I studied with Jehovah's witnesses, but again, something stirred wrong in my heart. That set me back a bit and although I loved God, I REALLY got lost in the world for several years til I was working a job where a lowly security guard who prayed before his lunches captured my attention and made me feel guilty that I didn't. Hmm. A new feeling stirred. We met every day for lunch at work for about a week. He led me to the Lord at work one day. But he didn't just plant the seed and leave me to my own devices. He took me to his church where we were married a year later. Fast forward about 10 years later, his abuse to our 2 young boys under 5 and infidelity to me(even prior to our marriage after confessing), we went to counseling at our Baptist Church where the pastor told me the end of our marriage and his abuse were my fault, and I had to fix it and pray God forgave me. I left. Fast forward again. Remarried to a friend I've known for years ( I'm aware of my OWN infidelity this time) but we were able to marry in a Methodist church ( not my childhood one). After lots of health issues on my side, his cancer cancer diagnosis and remission (God has definitely tested us) , I succumbed to my own unknown illness of a blood disorder. I died for 6 minutes and God has given me a second chance. While I felt my organs giving up, and I felt like a fish out of water, I prayed He would give me a second chance, and I would scream His Name on the proverbial mountain tops. So looking for another church in an emergency move because we could no longer afford our rent(I was still sick and the main breadwinner). We went to a local Zion Baptist where we were gladly accepted. They were lovely God fearing people praising God, with all Glory, but God had other plans, leading me to my Mother in law's Catholic Church where I am not allowed to take communion she said because even tho I am baptized Baptist, I am non-denominational Christian, and cannot partake. But her pastor (I do not call him Father, because God says call no man Father), another religion making me feel slightly uncomfortable. Down the street from us is a United Methodist Church, where I get to partake of communion, but they are calling God Creator more and are glad to have other parishioners say "she"or " they" as people feel necessary. Another "religion" that has "issues" .So you see, all "religions" have issues. All churches may have leadership that might faulter. So follow Christ, and learn what can from Christ where you can. I have met some wonderful born again Christian Catholics, Methodist, Jewish (Judeo-Christian), Baptist, and yes Even Mormons in my walk with Christ since my spiritual journey 10/13/19 when I died. Living by His rule not to judge. May you all have the perfect peace that passeth understanding and I pray diligently that He gives you wisdom in your walk to not bully other faiths. Our main focus is Christ, not religious confines of one denomination over another. Sorry so long, but you needed to hear my journey to understand where my lack of bias has come from- The true love of all my brothers and sisters globally, serving Christ everywhere from every denomination.
