Some very fascinating books!! I must tell you this, Steve. I can almost forget that I am watching a video when you are talking! I feel like you are chatting with friends! You are a natural Booktuber... Perhaps you were a Booktuber before there was a Booktube! Thanks for inviting us into your home to talk books!

+Retired Book Nerd Well, I'd like to think I AM just chatting about books with friends! If I thought in more formal terms, I'd probably be too nervous to make videos!

Since none of my friends are cowards, none of my friends are internet trolls - I'm really hoping if I keep blocking this weirdo, sooner or later he'll get the hint and just leave ...
@retiredbooknerd8 жыл бұрын
Steve Donoghue That makes me so angry! Well, I'll be blocking him as well! What a ridiculous thing to have to deal with... I once had someone tell me that they had no interest in listening to the ideas of an ugly, fat, ex-teacher.. So nice!
@saintdonoghue8 жыл бұрын
+Retired Book Nerd It mystifies me too - I'd have assumed BookTube would be one of the only places online where there would be no trolls!

Steve:You are such a great addition to Booktuber, a Rock Star!!! I watched almost all of your videos this past weekend and posed some comments and a question but understand the literary Mick Jagger may be too busy to rezpond--I'm all about My Lord Canterbury.

+Sandra Reiss a rock star??? Good lord! That's going to be hard to live up to! But I can't find your question - what was it?

+Steve Donoghue I think you mentioned the book The First Nazi...have you read the Nazis Next Door??

I have indeed - in almost every way, a better book than the one I mentioned!

I enjoyed these recommendations. I tend to read historical nonfiction when I get the opportunity, but these all sound like they are very appealing to those that enjoy these areas of history. Will Shakespeare is probably the one that catches my attention the most, being an English major that is aware of the mystery that surrounds Shakespeare's legacy and the kind of person he was outside of what he contributed to literature. Thank you for sharing! -Josh

Thank you, Steve, for your book lists. I especially like old, used books. Like an old house, they have more character. As for as another Historical Novel List, could you please do one about Civil War novels. I currently only have one, John Dwyer's Stonewall, which is really good. I am studying the Civil War on my Military History days (Friday and Saturday), starting with your recommendation of Bruce Catton's trilogy.

I'd be really excited to hear about your top 10 history or fictional books on World War II. My friends and I are planning a trip to Prague-Krakow-Budapest in early October and we wanna do some buddy readings together before the trip. Of course, it'll be a challenge to see if we'll find Turkish translation of the books you'd suggest as only 2 of us can read books in English. Still, we'd appreciate your suggestions. Thank you for sharing such interesting books on KZbin 😊 Greetings from Ankara 🙋

I love historical fiction it was the genre that kept me reading when I was a teen books by Sharon K Penman, Gone with the Wind and Mists of Avalon etc. - I'm pretty sure Historical fiction influenced me to take History and Politics at university (note not English Literature lol). Now I read a lot of non-fiction history and politics too. I think Anya Seton has been republished recently because they have been on my radar for a few years now.

Thank you for mentioning Sharon K. Penman. I have been trying to remember her name. A friend lent me several of her Welsh Princes novels and I would like to read them again.

Young Tim Curry will always excite strange feelings in me (I blame Rocky Horror). Thanks for this list! I'm still coming off a book high from The Crimson Petal and the White, which I read last year. That historical fiction stands up above all others, in my opinion. Love the sound of all these books, especially Clodia.
@saintdonoghue8 жыл бұрын
+SteveReadsBooks The Crimson Petal and the White is certainly brilliant! And of course I'd be happy to send you a copy of Clodia, particularly since I haven't sent you anything lately and feel rotten about that ...

Absolutely great recommendations video. I am intrigued by Child of the Morning. My library doesn't have it but I see Amazon does...sigh. I think I will first opt for thrift store and used bookshop searches and if all else fails...

Well, isn't that kind of you. Am I weird for not accepting immediately? It's just that I'm not very good at reading books right when I receive them, but if you're not offended by that then I'd be grateful and happy to take you up on the offer. Shall I just message you on Twitter?
