Let’s not forget about the most underrated member of the 27 club, Alan “Blind Owl” Wilson, guitarist for Canned Heat. Who also played at Woodstock alongside Joplin & Hendrix. He passed away due to a barbiturate OD & unfortunately died a virgin. He cared a lot about nature & was devastated about the deforestation going on in California. He was also an excellent Harmonica player & a slide guitarist. John Lee Hooker once said that Alan Wilson was one of the best harmonica players he’s ever heard & one of the best musicians he’s ever played with, for always being on beat with Hooker, whose rhythm was very difficult to catch up with.
@sideshow003 жыл бұрын
Another OD. Making me realize that the elephant in the room about 27 is that it seems it's just enough time to do a lot in the world. But at 27 we are still young enough to make very dumb decisions to mess that all up. I can surely relate being 27. I feel mature enough now to know what to focus on but my early and mid 20s bad habits are still in me. But transitioning out.

It's called "confirmation bias". In other words, it's when we as pattern seeking primates, notice the "hits" & ignore the "misses". When a celebrity dies at an age other than 27, we ignore the age. If a celebrity DOES die at 27, it stands out to us because of the significance we had given that age of death before hand. Now, the more people that learn of this "27 club", the more people we have noticing the "hits & ignoring the "misses" and the legend continues to grow.

I feel like 27 is the right age to have been able to accomplish a lot, but be on the cusp of something more, hence the fascination with it. Anything younger and you haven't really had a lot of time to do much, you look more like a flash in the pan; anything older and you have a greater body of work behind you, so at least you've had a chance to really *do* something, and people can cling to that in fond remembrance of you, but 27 is in that sweet spot between the two, even if it has no statistical significance. There are always exceptions, of course, but this is how it's always struck me.

Yup. 27 is the start of your true late 20s too. But it isn't very late either. It's also after your mid 20s but before 30 . Perfect quarter life crisis age. But my generation (Zillennial) and Z's coming up have so much access to information we hit that before 27 imo. I'm 27 now and tbh I feel in-between what I could've done and before what I'm capable of. Just now mature enough to know what to focus on but not old enough to utilize that and reap the benefits. It's the start of my upcoming prime. And you feel it.

This can be a very difficult and karmic point in your life. Makes sense to me. Marc Bolan of T. Rex came to mind. He was 29. It is possible sometimes for Saturn to return when you’re 29. There may still be some connections. Thinking back on my 20's I went through a "destructive" period when I was 21-22 when I could legally drink. I had already been drinking for years, but now I could actually go to bars/clubs/etc and partake. Living near a major college town didn't help. After that I still drank, but slowed down on the bar hopping. Then something changed and from 27-28 I started hitting the bars hard again. I spent a ton of money and more than once drove home when I shouldn't have. I was lucky to make it through my 20's Then you have these talented artists. People with so much talent always appear to have much more tortured souls. Maybe that's what makes them so talented. Not only are they more tortured, but they have far more money, and much easier access to things. I could only begin to imagine what the likes of Hendrix, Cobain, etc could have accomplished had they made it past that point in their lives.

I honestly believe that Kurt Cobain didn't commit suicide. His wife had a hand in his murder. There was evidence to show that the suicide letter had originally been just a letter Cobain had written to Courtney, as a means of telling her he no longer wanted to be with her, and she forged his handwriting to make the second half of the letter. There were papers in her purse, showing her trying to copy his handwriting. They had mutual friends that were addicted to heroin. I figure she convinced one of them that she would cut him off if he didn't do it. The shotgun shell flew off to the wrong side of the room from where it should have gone, if Cobain had shot himself, yet there was nothing around him close enough to make it bounce in that direction. The autopsy report showed that he also had like 4 times the lethal dose of heroin in his system at the time. It would have been impossible for him to hold a shotgun, much less manipulate it in such a way as to effectively shoot himself. Sadly, given that Love was telling everyone that he was suicidal, that is what the investigation concluded. Although the documentary, "Soaked in Bleach" was a little embellished, it does give some insight to the whole event that led to his death. It has clips of the actual interviews with the PI that CL hired. That being said, my own son, although he was not famous by any means, passed away this year. He was not an addict by any means. He, I am sure, was unaware of his having diabetes. He got an infection that spiked his blood sugar to 2000 and got ketoacidosis from it. He was, of course, 27. Take care of your health people. Life is short enough as is, and no parent should ever have to bury their son or daughter.

I've read a book that said the dealer whom supplied Janis was also the guy whom Jim had gotten some from. Hed gotten some for Pam. He used and OD'd. The dealer eventually left to the US because quite a few people were passing away from his product. He began to joke about it and it brought heat.

Sounds like Jim Morrison did a real number on Joh Densmore and the rest of the band. “I sometimes ask myself If he were alive Today would he be sober? Of course he would! He was smart.” As if doing drugs or being an alcoholic has anything to do with intelligence or how smart you are. RIP JIM!!!!

Most of these are due to addiction because people with huge musical talent also tend to be eccentric and struggle with mental health. They have easy access to drugs and tons of money and they're young and stressed and probably nervous a lot of the time. People stigmatize drug addiction so much when the underlying causes for it usually stem from mental health and trauma. The fact it's so stigmatized is a major reason why we lose so many people.

Shannon Hoon was the lead singer and primary songwriter for Blind Melon. He was found dead of a heroin overdose on their tour bus upon arriving in New Orleans. He was 28 at the time of his death,and therefore I'm convinced is not as well remembered as he would have been had he died just months sooner. He had plenty in common with the others in this group. Just not the thing the club was named for.

I read an astrology article recently, which claimed a correlation between the first natal Saturn return (it takes Saturn approximately 25-30 years to return to its natal placement in a birth chart and is known to bring harsh lessons offering reward) some kind of a personal devastating emotional disturbance, and as assumed, doing so in the case is the stress of living in the public eye.

27 is the time of one’s first Saturn Return. Sometimes the mind takes over and this can happen. 🙌
@TheWynterWitchh2 жыл бұрын
If you look into astrology, we all have something that comes up as a Saturn Return and that happens every 28-31 years so around age 27 we start feeling that pressure and it effects us all differently. It’s calls on us to create structure to start building a foundation for the next 30 years. I believe the pressure to progress and go onto the next step of adulthood might have taken them early, as most of these beloved artist had intense internal and emotional issues and some type of addiction issue. I think if we don’t start stripping away what no longer serves us, we suffer more and in some cases it is more severe. So sad. I’m not saying this is the only reasoning and you don’t have to resonate with astrology, it’s just my opinion. I wish we could’ve seen the art they would’ve continued making, most of the 27 club are some of my favorite artists. Living on forever through their voices and I’m not gunna lie I’m high key OBSESSED lol rip beautiful souls ❤
