@@sherry4233 You're right, it's funny to joke that Lucas' Mandarin is bad, but the truth is that he is completely fluent. He has a non-standard accent (influenced by Cantonese), but his vocabulary and grammar is like a native speaker. Ten is a learner who is missing a lot of crucial vocabulary. I'm really impressed with his good pronunciation though. He does make mistakes sometimes, but his general grasp of the tones and the "difficult" sounds is very impressive.

This has nothing to do with language ability though, and Ten had no prior knowledge of Chinese before he joined SM.

Honestly I'm amazed at how quickly he's picked up Chinese. Like you can tell by how much more he talks now in later WayV videos vs when they first started promoting together. The best point of his Chinese speaking is when he argued with Lucas over his Ice Coffee only being "cold coffee" because there was no ice in it during that one WayV dream plan episode.

bruh I am (American-born) Chinese and have been speaking Mandarin my whole life but I still find the language super difficult. I can only read a little and my vocab in general is pretty limited. I'm fluent enough to carry conversations and watch some shows. (bonus: I have a Beijing accent so I sound native even tho I'm not) Anyways, my point is I am super impressed by Ten's efforts and I find it very admirable and inspiring how hard he is trying. He's pretty much at about my level now and I've been speaking Mandarin my whole life AND he knows a bunch of other languages too! I'm constantly impressed by Ten and I'm always excited to see his progress.

I love this. I'm studying in China, taking classes in Chinese even though I'm on the same chinese level as ten so I know how incredibly difficult it is. Especially the tones and grammar.
