@11:56 That Supercharger-story has no meat. It's just hot air. This is what happened. 1. Some hundred EV owners (mostly Tesla) didn't use their brain, i.e. recharge their car before leaving Sälen on their way back to, in many cases, Stockholm after their vacation. Already after 63 km (39 miles) many of them decided to recharge at the Malung SuperCharger. 2. Sälen has more than 100 public destination chargers and more than 20 fast chargers (50-360 kW), among those, 8 of them is at a Tesla Supercharger site (250 kW). They could have went for a charge and a lunch any day in the week, or even parked at a destination charger for 5-6 hours if their cottage didn't have a charging option. 3. On the way home, a diesel-head decided to go to the Tesla SuC in Malung to film the queue of people that haven't charged before leaving Sälen. This blew up social media. I must add that I have never seen a charging queue myself, despite having made some road trips. Also, despite not using Tesla Superchargers as long as there is a strike, I have never been in a queue at other sites either. There is no problems charging at other networks than Tesla, either there is a queue or, as for me, for ideological reasons. Note that ABRP (A Better Route Planner) even has options to prefer or avoid, and as of now, I have set it to avoid the Tesla network. I wish the strike would have made it harder to find SuperChargers that are available, but tbh, that is not the case. There are plenty of chargers available everywhere. It's just the new Tesla sites that will have to wait until the strike is over. Also, long strikes are unusual in Sweden, since these collective agreements also means strikes are prohibited util the agreement runs out. It is a part of the agreement to not strike as long as there is a valid contract. Addendum: All charger networks in Sweden, Tesla and others, are open to all vehicles.

@@timothybennett1879 EV and gas have different 'refueling' scenarios. Almost all charging takes place at home, and is far slower than gas refueling. Of course this is changing, with more street parkers needing to charge and EV charging getting shorter. But people will want to charge while they shop, not stand in the cold for 5 minutes then go inside to buy coffee like they do for a gas car.
@timothybennett18792 күн бұрын
@jamesvandamme7786 number one, all charging doesn't have to be for 10+minutes. Second, we can choose to sit in the car or frequent the convince store that is usually located at the charging dispenser. A lot of the time you only need to get a bit of charge and move on. However if someone is already in progress because there are usually only one dispenser available multiple people have to wait in line, sometimes causing blockage of other traffic trying to access the business in general. If as you know there are multiple fostil fuels locations on most corners two plus in the same location, if they all had multiple ev dispensers this give choice and availability of charging.

When you drive an ICE car, you are exposed to its pollution and also to its noise. It seems that the stress of engine noises has more effect than was previously believed. It also turns out that air with more CO2 than normal is also not good for you. Even though the levels are well below the point of being toxic, it causes you to breath a bit harder. "EV sales are growing" From a negligible amount of global shipments to a slightly less negligible fraction, most of the large "gains" from ICE manufacturers offering massive discounts on their EVs to offset the massive fines they are about to get from being too far behind on EV sales. Not because people were willing to buy EVs over whatever ICEV they had in mind at non-discounted prices. The easy EV sales are mostly over. Many car manufacturers will likely get bankrupted by fines on excess ICEV sales, having to eat losses on their EVs to meet EV sales requirements or putting a hard-stop on ICEV sales for quota reasons and having to pass on that revenue. It is going to be a brutally forced transition. Paying a 50G$ bonus to a CEO who is boasting about obtaining Diablo 4 and Path of Exile achievements that would normally require 40+ hours/week to reach, on top of all of his political sidetrack projects makes no sense. Tesla appears to be an afterthought at best at this point. The "opinion on fast-charging" from people who don't need fast-charging because they charge at home and never go on trips long enough for fast-charging to matter isn't particularly useful, those people may rapidly change their tune if they ever need to use fast-charging a few times. So you only have ~8% of people who don't mind having to sit around for 40+ minutes to charge, the other ~92% of people still would prefer (much) faster options when they need to charge on-the-go. My tolerance limit for charging stops on a trip is maybe 20 minutes - 40 minutes is too far beyond my pain threshold from having done it twice in one round-trip with a Bolt EV. If I had to fast-charge roughly once a week due to not having power at my apartment parking spot, I would want those periodic charging detours to be under 10 minutes as I would only be doing a top-up from ~20% before getting to my destination while the battery isn't frozen, not looking to rest or do anything else in the area.

You might want to check those sales percentage numbers... they are wildly all over the place! For Volvo, your percentage number looks dramatically low... shouldn't it be over 300%? and then in the script you say sales are up 54%? Similarly, shouldn't the Kia percentages be up over 200%? Maybe im mathing wrong? Its not my strong suit.

I sincerely hope that fickle insecure politics doesn't hinder Aptera, I wouldn't put it past _certain people_ to deliberately sabotage Aptera. And I sincerely hope that Aptera has a plan to build at least one production line outside the US. Here in Europe there's still that tariff on US built cars that caused such a problem for the Chevy Volt or Opel/Vauxhall Ampera.

Apterra is just not a good idea for the real world. Just look at any other car in the road and you can immidiately see how that is very likely to be a death trap. The cybertrack is a bad idea because it ignores the safety of others (other than looking like the design of a 6 year old), but Apterra for all the testing that they have done of their own will probably fail official crush testing, sorry to say for those out there that think like a "cool design." If there was ever a good chance to get a normal looking and practical Solar self-charging car in the roads, that unfortunately died with the Sion frm Sono Motors. It came so close.

I don’t see how Aptera has a future with their only vehicle in the works. I consider myself to be an EV power user, having owned several different EVs since 2018 and both my husband and myself driving them exclusively since 2019, putting a combined 150k miles in EVs, and I would not even consider an Aptera. It might work for commuting, but it has no other practical application. I understand that they’re hyper-prioritizing efficiency, but they’re seriously sacrificing its ability to do anything else. History has shown over and over again that cars which only prioritize efficiency, not practicality, basically always fail. It’s cool and probably has a very small, niche market, but unless that small niche market is willing to pay the absolutely massive amount of money it would take to be able to make building a single, low production vehicle work financially (probably 6 figures USD) I don’t see how they have a future. Sorry.

Eh? Seems to me it's suitable for almost any road trip for 1 to 2 people, and as a daily driver for anyone who either doesn't have children, or whose household also owns a larger vehicle for thoee times they need to bring children along. And, as you say, for commuting.

I really like the channel and watch every episode but like everybody I know we're all sick of what's going on in this country and have had enough. It's hard enough to even watch the news as you can tell even MSNBC viewers aren't watching. We all need to change what we're doing because it's not working obviously. I understand you want to cover the whole industry but being fair doesn't work anymore we need to boycott anything Tesla. I would imagine most of your viewers wouldn't buy a Tesla anyways. You can't be fair and nice when people are about to destroy everything. Tell us the bad about Tesla I don't want to hear anything good as far as I'm concerned that company will never see a dollar of mine for any reason and just hearing the name makes me want to vomit. I hate to do it but at this point if you mention Tesla in a good light I'm just going to turn it off just like everybody's doing with MSNBC we need to stop and fight not pretend like everything's normal it may never be once the orange master gets back in charge.

That charging usage is distorted by the fact that the majority of potential car buyers can't afford to buy EV's and by the fact that most who can, either own their own homes or rent in apartments that are on the upper scale north of 3000/mo. At this point, EV's are essentially rich people's toys just as cars were before Ford came out with an affordable car

False, there are used EVs, 10 states have right to charge laws. A 120v outlet at home is enough for many
@linusa29962 күн бұрын
@rp9674 50% of people looking to buy a car used or new can't afford to pay more than $400-450/mo. And almost 1/3 of all Americans don't have access to a parking area with electricity. That number is more pronounced in urban centers where the majority of Americans actually live, not the burbs where most current ev owners live. Btw that $400/mo is a used spark ev or leaf
@toyotaprius79Күн бұрын
Have you noticed how over the last decade the majority of new cars (Premium and Luxury crossover-SUVs) are becoming "toys for the rich"? It's not an EV problem so to say, it's a profiteering problem, a market failure.
@toyotaprius79Күн бұрын
@@linusa2996your concerns are absolutely valid, and it's a macroeconomic phenomenon others would call it a market failure on a socio-economic scale, for example how record numbers of people rent and don't own their own home, or living in their cars. New EVs being premium because it's much more profitable to make any car premium is just the tippy top of the iceberg. US automakers done this before in the 70s and 2000s instead of investing in diverse products just in case an economic crash or oil embargoes hit. It's just now every automaker even traditionally bargain brands like Toyota, KIA and VW have cornered themselves into a premium market because that's where the profits are, profits that must be delivered to shareholders at all costs, profits that are reducing in currency value against inflation, inflation that is created by the greed to make as much profit as possible just like their competition. This is widespread across all industries even down to the bread and milk you buy. I'd recommend you Richard Wolff on the matter.

It is obscene. Elon Musk could replace every home destroyed in the LA fire and not even notice. He could house every single homeless person in the US from his obscene wealth. Nobody. Not any one person, should ever be given $55 billion. Especially from a company that treats its staff the way Tesla does.
@davemiller61212 күн бұрын
Who is to determine the amount someone should be compensated for their blood, sweat, and tears. If there was an agreement and the person completed the tasks as required, then they should be compensated the amount that was agreed upon. For someone, as a second party to question that agreement seems to be very UNAMERICAN. This is the kind of thing that stifles innovation. What is obscene is the fee being asked for by the lawyers of the plaintiff, not much innovation going on there. It seems like legal robbery. Besides, what do you think Elon will do with money??? It seems to me he's just a wacky dude trying to increase the earths population and develop a colony on Mars. The sooner he gets there, the better you will feel. So let him have his hard earned money.😅
