Lyrics:
Everywhere is freaks and hairies
Dykes and fairies, tell me, where is sanity?
Tax the rich, feed the poor
'Til there are no rich no more
I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you
Population keeps on breeding
Nation bleeding, still more feeding, economy
Life is funny, skies are sunny
Bees make honey, who needs money? No, not poor me
I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you
Oh, yeah
World pollution, there's no solution
Institution, electrocution
Just black and white, rich or poor
Them and us, stop the war
I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

Tax the rich into oblivion, and then who is gonna invest in businesses??? who is going EMPLOY and provide salaries from jobs? I love this song very much, yet it doesn't make ANY economical sense. the top 1% pay 40% of all the taxes...isn't that enough to feed this corrupt greedy government???? power to the people and F U C K life crushing taxes! these lyrics make no sense in 2024.

Spot on. Refer to this song to all the young and ignorant in today's world who sit and judge like they have all the answers. Hatred is spreading all over the world and so many still play the name game. There was always truth and comfort in music and now, we are even allowing cursing in the Fine Arts.

The “recreational” offerings, that were so readily available during this era, made for taking so many “magical trips”, while absorbing an almost daily plethora of amazing new music! I am also grateful that I was able to partake in so much of what life had to offer as we were spinning off of the “hippie culture” of the sixties into, what I believe, was the most creative age of rock n roll music throughout the seventies. Still waiting though for some, or even one, of those “flashbacks”, we were warned so much about, to occur!! Peace, Love, Blessings, and Prosperity, unto you and yours! God Bless!!

One of my favorite songs! I was 13 and had the album and thought about the grip on reality Alvin and the band had. Then I looked at the other bands and they had a grip . I grew up with the best music at the best time to enjoy it. My siblings all older than I added to my repertoire. I look back with a lot of appreciation for how we had it. I worry for today's kids all the time.

Yup nothing has changed. People still believe in mythology.

@@waynemiller6070 How do you know it's just Mythology? The argument is still between Creationism and Evolution and with modern Molecular Biology Creationism is getting the upper hand. They are finding out that there IS a genetic code within the tiniest cell that directs how it is supposed to act. As they say... if there's a program, there has to be a programmer! Sounds much more reasonable than all life "just happened" with no guiding hand...

@@MrJameslascko maybe 🤔 Did you ever hear about tribes doing a rain dance? Oh sure, after a couple of months the rain finally came. See? It works! It works about as well as prayer.

@@waynemiller6070 I have no idea of what you are talking about? What does Creationism vs. Evolution have to do with prayers - or a rain dance? I wasn't talking about either.... ?

one of my favorite songs as a young man. now I know why I paid such close attention to the lyrics back then... MORE relevant NOW than EVER before! It is truly 'left up to us' such is 'free will'

Dude. The chorus, the heart of the song, is, I'd love to change the world! If you loved this song, how could you not remember those words? I'll be 70 shortly, and my memory is not what it used to be, but I could never forget that hook. It's everything that the song is about! No offense intended, please accept my words as they are intended, not as an insult, but as a genuine disbelief that you couldn't remember the basis of this song. A true classic. Ignore me and keep rockin and loving this unique music that we were blessed to be given.

I remember back in March /07 /1970, in cipolite beach Oaxaca Mexico, total solar eclipse lots of hippies from Mexico and USA, Vietnam war raging and me and my brother ( Mexicans) playing this and many other songs, Neil Young’s After the Gold Rush and Beatles stones etc…… those days are not gone, those days are, like this songs, for ever. ☮️ 😎
