For people who don't understand (see comments below), this movie was about principles not outcomes. It's principles of fairness and justice and that the rule of law supercedes feelings and loyalties, principles that are hard to find today where people too often just want what they want and will lie and bully others to get their way.

This movie was based on a story by Louis L’Amour (1907-1988), arguably one on the three greatest western novelists of the 20th century, right up there with Max Brand and Zane Grey. L’Amour lived to see many of his novels arrive on the silver screen and the television screen, and was known for his series of novels featuring the Sackett family from Tennessee who headed out west as gunfighters, lawmen, bounty hunters, prospectors, and settlers. He was one of my mom’s favorite authors, and I got hooked on his novels as well.

Joel McRae was one of the best big screen actors, especially Westerns. He was born in 1909 and his career as an actor spanned almost 5o years. He appeared in over 100 movies in which in 80 of them he starred. He appeared in Western films exclusively from 1946 to 1976, when he retired. In 1946, he turned down the lead role in "The Postman Always Rings Twice". He said "This character is too much of a gigalo. I don't like his moral standards." He turned down several roles because he couldn't see himself in them. (-from Wikipedia -) I rate Gregory Peck also as one of the best Western stars.

The story for this movie was written by Louis L’Amour (1907-1988), quite possibly the greatest western novelist of the 20th century. He was best known for his series of novels featuring the Sackett family, and quite a few novels were filmed for the silver screen and the television screen, including the two-part television mini-series THE SACKETTS (1979) with Tom Selleck and Sam Elliott and the television movie CONAGHER (1991) with Sam Elliott and Katherine Ross.

The cattle king of Australia could travel from the bottom of South Australia, to the Gulf in Queensland, and not get off his own land. Australia is virtually the same area as North America, so it is not small. Quite a feat a hundred years ago, to own roughly that many properties.. His name was Sydney Kidman. If he had been over a place he never forgot it. One of his Stations, Durham Downs, in the channel country, was 4000 square miles. This is by no means the biggest Station over here, but it gives you an idea .

Great movie with solid cast depicting the age old battle between right and wrong. On another note, my soon to be 90 y.o. mother told me that in her day, only prostitutes wore lipstick and plastered gobs of make-upon themselves like they portray most of the women in this movie and others. And people believe that all this loose portrayal of women was for lighting purposes. Now, that s funny. 🙏
