Tribute is the song they performed for the Devil . and the song referenced is tribute. so They played the devil a song detailing the events that had just happened, are happening and will happen while also referencing the song that they are currently singing. Well I think in terms of releasing they knew they could never put stairway to heaven into it, this is the demo version of the album version. The TV version is basically it's own thing in its own right I believe. I think when they wrote the song they WANTED to put that in there but knew as a releasable single it just could never happen
