I saw it in theaters and over the years when this movie came up with people (often loving it) virtually none of them saw it in theaters. So I'm sure piracy might have contributed a bit but rather I think it was just the sheer number of people willing to wait to own it or rent it. I wasn't a Tenacious D fan when I saw this, rather just a Jack Black fan. I think perhaps the movie was in a weird spot where typical Jack Black fans thought they needed to be fans of Tenacious D to appreciate the movie and while it might have helped it wasn't at all necessary. I also saw this with someone who was a huge fan of Tenacious D and I do recall them being a bit surprised I was up for seeing it, so maybe that also played a role where fans didn't really feel like they had anyone to go see it with? People generally don't like to go to the movies alone so again they were probably more comfortable waiting to see it.

There is not a film in existence that I have seen more times than The Pick of Destiny. I rewatched this movie as a young teenager over and over and over. To this day, I know every word of every song and most of the dialog. I know it’s not for everyone, but if it’s for you, it’s FOR you.

This movie holds a special place in my heart. In 2005 my father died and I was 20. My friend and I played guitar and wrote music together. We started playing acoustic shows in NYC. I would sing and play rhythm guitar and he played lead guitar. We would watch this movie and get really stoned pretty often. Along with Freddy Got Fingered. Those were some good times when I was in a sort of dark place. My highschool girlfriend didn't show up to my dad's funeral like she was supposed to with my best friends girlfriend. So things ended shortly after that also.

I went to Download Festival in 2016, one day they were playing this movie in a huge tent. It was so crowded i had to sit in the back by the door, but as the movie played every single person was singing along to each song. It was beautiful man. Honestly a magical moment i'm glad i got to witness

It's just as I've gotten older I've come to realize that Roger Waters is batshit insane, and that most of David Gilmour's criticism about the record and film are true. It was Roger pretty much taking all his issues and blaming them on people in his life and on the fans. Plus it fetishizes Nazi ideology in a really sus way. There's just too much about it that is problematic for me to really enjoy listening to it the way I used to before I really started looking at the messages it attempts to convey.

@@ennuiblue4295 I'll add that despite my issues with it, it doesn't change the fact that when I was a kid 'Comfortably Numb' was the first song that made me realize songs were more than just melodies with a beat. I was 9 years old, dealing with a really bad flu, and the song and meds I was on literally took me to another universe. It was a once in a lifetime event that has never strayed far from my mind. I never got into drugs or alcohol, fortunately so what I did to chase that high was get into writing my own songs, poetry, and stories. I owe Roger's writing that much. He's still batshit bonkers insane, though.

I'm very surprised to hear this movie failed. It is one of my all-time favorite movies and all of my friend and me use one liner from it all the time. It was an amazing movie. I bought at least seven copies on DvD because when I would want to watch the movie again, it wouldn't be here because one of my friends had borrowed it and then they lost it, so I would rush out and buy another copy.

I remember having to travel an hour to a different part of London to get to a cinema that was actually showing this movie. I was thrilled when I finally saw the D live (Rise of the Phoenix tour) and they performed at least 6 songs from POD including Beelzeboss.

I first saw this movie when it came out on DVD, and immediately fell in love with its base theme of escaping mediocrity, pursuing your dream when no one supports you, and having the perseverance to keep going when all you see around you is consistent failure, and you have every reason to give up. Turns out, when you're being faced with an insurmountable amount of adversity alone, what's perceived as being highly delusional is sometimes someone having the faith in themselves that they aren't receiving from an external support system. Sometimes, you need to be crazy enough to keep pursuing seemingly futile personal endeavors till you eventually find success. It's only then you're no longer crazy & delusional; you've fulfilled what you believed you were personally destined for. 💪

So, a friend of mine and myself have this running joke about us not ending up seeing Pick of Destiny in theatres. What had happened was that we first decided to go see Casino Royal together with some friends. A week or so, our intention was to go see Pick of Destiny. The problem was that the group that we were with had a slightly different rotation of friends than the week prior, so some of them hadn't seen Casino Royal yet. What's worse is that my friend had basically been hyping up Casino Royal while we were hanging out before seeing the movie. By the time we got to the theatre, the group decided to go see Casino Royal instead of Pick of Destiny and I begrudgingly went along with it. Despite my best efforts, I was unable to find time with friends to actually see Pick Of Destiny while in theatre. Thankfully, due to it's DVD release, I was able to see it. Nowadays, I joke with my friend that I'm totally not bitter at all for the last minute change of plans that happened that fateful night. Thank you for listening to my Ted Talk.

I love this movie. I bought the dvd and play it whenever I need a good laugh. I was surprised that it did do well in the box office. The music is great and JB and Kyle did an awesome job on it. It's funny as hell and the cameos are really cool. I'm not a big fan of Ben Stiller, but his part in this movie was spot on and he just nailed it. This is my favorite Jack Black movie and Kyle Gass is the perfect pairing. Not only does he do a terrific job as a supporting actir, but he brings his own comedy talent to the movie. But, just like in music getting a recording contract doesn't mean jack if they don't promote it properly. That's why some movies do much better on DVD.

I was into Jack Black and Tenacious D in my early teens. Before I could afford to go to see movies realiably. Later on in my early 20's when I had some money, I learned I wasn't into JB and his style nearly as much anymore. Even now, I feel like his shtick got pretty old. I still have a soft spot for his stuff. It was awesome in my early and late teens. I'm pretty sure I'd still find PoD funny too. The songs still kickass. I'll probably give it a way later :)

I remember watching this as soon as it was released on DVD in 2007 and I felt like a like the HBO mini series was better. I think Tenacious D as a band is more famous then ever and the 2006 movie has got a large cult following after all these years.
