Seamless pipe was made in National Tube works in McKeesport ,Pa. in the 1900. The mill has since closed but made pipe till the 1980"s .

How does that boring mandrel aka piercing tool come out once the solid bar is forced onto it? And I imagine that the piercing tool must be fixed at the other end and must be longer than the tube/pipe. Otherwise, how is it supported?

The way I'd do it is to cut the pipe off once it gets long enough, then rotate the pipe+piercing tool out of alignment with the incoming bar so that the hot pipe can then be slid off the same direction it slid on. Otherwise yeah it would have to be held in place with some crazy magnet contraption that, realistically, no way they would actually use.

At the bar mill where I once worked we established a program of recycling wood from incoming trucks and cars into outbound shipments. We saved much money and wood.

Wood literally grows on trees. More trees are planted than are cut down. The wood will be recycled one way or another.
