I have been saying(commenting mostly) this for years. The damage "entertainment for the modern audience" has done to Americas soft power is insane, and no one seem to get it. It's not just boring slop, it's boring slop that devalues American ideas as a whole, they have become hard to take seriously. (I'm not American)

Yup. A huge appeal of US outside of it, the whole "America fk yeah" vibes and "Freedom" was thanks to the great Hollywood content, comic books and other entertainment. Even if the US of the 90s wasn't like it was shown with American entertainment it did create a certain image of that country. America entertainment self-hatred ruined that image and the approach towards consumers isn't helping either.

Saying Valve isn't diverse when they arguably have some of the most diverse games ever made is absolutely insane to me. Valve created games with women, people of practically every ethnic group on Earth and people of mixed heritage, had games with female protagonists, and so on. But the activists ignore *all of that* in order to push an absolutely absurd narrative because they get paid for it.

You get accused of various political incorrectness (like lacking diversity) so that you will bend the knee and hire SBI-like consultants. Razorfist has actually repeated this point when Black Myth: Wukong came out but Tencent is a company to always watch out for. All companies in the CCP have to answer to the CCP… I’m not surprised myself. And Razorfist has also pointed out that this appears to be intentional because of how the CCP invests in things such as DEI programs in the States while not using it in their own country. Do I think they’re directly involved in Chinese military affairs? Hard to say, all things considered, given how Chinese corporations are connected to the government, making it a tangled mess. But I’m partly inclined to side with Razorfist on this after what Tencent has done to companies like Marvelous. And as pointed out however, American culture has been self sabotaged so badly in the last decade that it’s starting to make foreign products like Black Myth more appealing. It leaves me conflicted because I want to support the things I like, and a game based on Sun Wukong is a neat idea to explore, but I’m reluctant to buy the game because of things like Tencent. I guess I should be thankful for Nintendo & indie games being around still.

i think china dreams of a world where they're the global hegemon given its government structure and they're obssesive control of their citizens, if they're willing to piss of their neighbours with border clashes and jets flying in and out of their country i have no reason to doubt they want to control or dominate entertainment as well as economy.

Depends on the indie game, really. I like Nintendo, too. But they alone cannot be a replacement for the plethora game developers and first-parter titles from Sony and Microsoft that went to shit. And the Pokémon Company has already shown it does cave or is willing to partner with Tencent whe making Pokemon Unite or the downgrade they gave the female avatar in Pokemon Go. I know Pokemon Company isn't the exact same as Nintendo, but Nintendo is 1/3 of the component that makes up that company. So Nintendo isn't impervious. Razorfist has a point about the pervasiveness of Tencent and the CCP, but he's also very biased against any entertainment coming from the Far East that's not Mario, Donkey Kong and Zelda.
@Alwyn2112
@Alwyn2112 15 күн бұрын
@@D-Havoc I agree actually, on almost all of this. I would prefer a wider amount of options for gaming, myself. The more options for gamers, the more competition, which in turn leads to creating better media. The indie market kind of fills some of the growing void being left by larger companies (be it mid-tier or “AAA” games). I’m aware of the recent happenings with TPC, Nintendo, and Tencent and I remain pretty cautious on it. I take “Wait and see how it appears overall” approach, just to see if I’m willing to spend money on anything. As for Razorfist and his bias, I actually picked up on that pretty quickly, but in this, I kind of go “Ok then, if that’s what you think, I won’t really press you this.” I still think Razorfist has some good takes in terms of culture. I just prefer to enjoy what I want, and if it’s from the Far East, well it’s something I don’t mind typically.

@Cortanis001
@Cortanis001 15 күн бұрын
I mean, they're not wrong. Since the CCP requires government affiliation with every Chinese company that exists, that really makes them just another arm of the CCP. What's really sad is that virtually every industry has allowed some version of these Chinese companies to invade and hold them by the balls. The games industry is particularly visible with Tencent, but one can't deny the overt attempts by Tencent to purchase as many major studios/distributors one company at a time almost one country at a time. Note how many Canadian based game developers that they've little more than purchased control of like Digital Extremes and soon Ubisoft. Unless some action is specifically taken in regards to China, they're going to continue to use economics as a warfare weapon and buy out each target's culture out from under them.

Only those who object to any and all non-religious art would even consider it. America dominated the entertainment industry for most of the 1900’s and even in the early 2000’s. Post WW2, more Germans were watching American movies than movies made in their own country. It's a shame that western entertainment has come to this. Even though I enjoy my Chinese waifu gacha games, I don't want all of my gaming to be this way. I do want the west to bounce back, but I genuinely can't see it ever happening anytime soon. As Vee said: People will keep buying Chinese made entertainment because it's objectively better than anything that the modern west can put out. "Well people can just play older games, watch older cartoons and shows and blah blah blah" - My brother in Christ: No, it doesn't matter. The average day consumer doesn't care about older games, cartoons and shows. They have no nostalgia for them, thus have no any frame of reference as to why they the older stuff is better than new stuff. Your average Gen-Z, Gen Alpha, and soon Gen Beta kid will be growing up with all this modern day entertainment, and they will always go for Chinese made stuff because it will eventually be more popular than anything in the West, and people always pick what is popular. You think that China cares if your average Millennial or Gen-X folk doesn't buy into their stuff, when the have millions of kids and teens they can persuade and profit off of? People like Razorfist can argue that China is at fault for letting all this rot into our entertainment and that no one should support Chinese-made anything, but It takes two to tango. China filled the pills up with poison and USA entertainment industry gladly swallowed. Until the west gets its act together, China will dominate our entertainment moving forward and there isn't a thing you can say that will make the majority of consumers see otherwise.

The woke-progs has a limited understanding of soft power; the kind of entertainment the woke-progs pushed will NEVER be accepted by the rest of the world. And now that the Chicom's soft power is rising and starting to supplanting the video game industry, this would increase the influence the Chicom Party over everyone, gaining positive views from other countries' youth due to the entertainment made by their own state-owned companies.

>the christians Huh? We play video games too. It's not _us_ screeching about DEI on Twitter. You keep going back and forth about China funding DEI in games while also "being a chad" and making better games to fill the gap left but you seem to keep avoiding or missing the point that _maybe that's the plan._ I can refuse to buy DEI/woke games and I can also refuse to give money to the CCP at the same time. >there's no alternative Even if that were true it doesn't matter, there's plenty of old games. If the current US game market destroys itself for DEI then so be it I guess.

People don't want to deny themselves. The way things will be lost is because people are too self indulgent and no conviction. We're finding out how many aren't willing to go all the way to change things.

I am pretty certain that it is indeed as you say all intentional as subversive action did not stop with the USSR. On the bright side, if we as in our political side, were to start making our own games they'd likely be successful thanks to this subversive action as well.

One telling example of this comes from the period after the invasion of Afghanistan. An American was giving an art class for Afghan women and used Piss Christ as a positive example. That's as transparent an example of subversive messaging as one can find, in a scenario where you should be projecting soft power through, at the bare minimum, positive examples of Western culture.

Also, I recently feel like Nvidia may be targeting LOL on driver level by crashing their game because its Chinese affiliated. I gotta say that I would have never expected a chinese and south korean take over of the gaming industry a few years ago. It just sounded incredibly absurd considering that these countries were only known for shitty free to play games with truckloads of microtransactions and cheap knock offs of already well known games. And for the most part that's what they're still doing, but western games becoming so incredibly unappealing, combined with people's standards for quality also getting way lower, it was inevitable.

I've long avoided Chinese games to limit my contributing revenue that would benefit the CCP. I know that's near impossible to avoid it entirely these days but where I can, even if it costs a bit more, I'll buy a product made elsewhere. That said, Western game studios have so self sabotaged that much of my gaming time is invested in games from Asia. For now, it's largely from Korea but at some point, I'll probably end up buying a Chinese made game.

It’s an Eastern European thing, especially when you are talking about the action of the US government you will not find very much positive opinions and after there entertainment has gone down hill 😂 the fact that the EU sucks doesn’t mean the US is good especially now when one administration after another is totally incompetent in the USA and definitely not worse than being a member of the EU, the EU is not a country and we have our own government, the EU has very little influence over my life compared to my government but we are not part of everything like the Euro or justice part where migration and borders are part of the package. The fact that Trump thinks he can buy Greenland from Denmark is a joke we can’t even sell Greenland 😂it’s not a colony, it’s not like private property we can sell, it’s best described as a part of the danish federation or Kingdom. The only way possible was if people from Greenland wanted to be Americans 😂😂😂 they definitely don’t, haft what to be totally Independence and haft what to continue as now there are no we want to be Americans in Greenland, you might find 2-5 people, I never heard of such a thing 😂
