It's my head canon that on the episode where Tendi joins Ransom on a covert mission wasn't by accident. She was assigned to "clean" the conference room where Ransom and the covert ops team were supposed to meet the "Cleaner". Star Fleet Intelligence set up that meeting, knowing Tendi's skills would come in useful for that mission.

Except unlike Mesk, Worf did practice and learn to be Klingon Warrior. He even won bat'leth tournaments, though being a tournament fighter and actual fighting might be different. Plus in Deep Space Nine, he did earn the respect from other Klingon for beating the snot out of Dominion's gladiators. To be honest, not sure how Mesk can practice since piracy is totally illegal, let alone privateering (the closest thing he could do is Starfleet, which he is doing).

S3E1 All three of them together could barely restrain Mariner. Granted, Mariner was more motivated, and they had different goals- I think Tendi was staying in Starfleet mode, so she would probably be a match for Mariner on her own if she went Orion mode.

It would be interesting to see an enemy turn Tendi against the crew of the Cerritos with some kind of mind control or whatever. Tendi unrestrained would be a match for anyone on the ship and her knowledge of ships in general and the Cerritos would make her a force to be reckoned with. When Tendi and the boys tried to fight control of the Cerritos away from Mariner, Tendi was not fighting at full force so that doesn’t count. Tendi is probably my favorite character from this show.

The Orions could have kicked Borg but in those battles, even if Tendi probably wasn't in Starfleet when they happened. The Defiant is probably much like an Orion ship small fast and deadly. Unfortunately the Orions avoid stand up fights, Orion is technically part of the Federation so protecting Orion and the Federation is Star Fleets job. If the Borg had gone anywhere near Orion though family and Syndicate ships probably would have shown up from the entire sector. Orion lore has been spotty in the TV shows, the original animated series and Enterprise went into it more than any others. However, it's been written about in novels and games since the 70s. The writers from Lower Decks actually pay attention to these sources of lore. The following Lore dump is technically all from unofficial sources now: When Orion's joined the Federation it was for economic reasons. They already had a massive fleet of ships, most were armed merchant vessels owned by independent or family operators, and the Enterprise series explained they already had a long history of piracy against themselves and other space faring races they made contact with. Their home world always denied it had any control over the pirates and claimed they were not sanctioned by the people and government of their home system. When Star Fleet was being formed and it was decided that the individual worlds defense fleets be rolled into Star Fleet, and even the Vulcans and Andorians were giving up or decommissioning some of their ships, all the military appropriate ships of Orion defense forces disappeared. The small family operatored "trade fleets" and Syndicate forces all of a sudden had a lot more heavily armed ships though. The government of the Orions home system still insisted that although they had ordered their defense forces to hand control over to Star Fleet some of all the crews mutinied and stole their entire fleet. The Orion government and captured pirates on some of those vessels haven't changed that story since. Although Federation intelligence and law enforcement has suspected all along that the people of the Orion worlds of the Federation support the Orion Pirates and the Syndicate no significant proof has ever been found against any civilian political leaders that Federation law can act upon. The local Orion governments don't tend to follow any leads provided to them by the Federation either. So everyone pretty much suspects that all Orions are involved in the various piracy and Syndicate illicit trades. The only time the Federation and Star Fleet can do anything is when they catch them in the act of something illegal. However, with only a couple of exceptions whenever Star Fleet has ships that could do anything about it anywhere near such illegal operations the Orions behave them selves and act like model citizens of the Federation, quirky but obviously not involved in any of that unsavory stuff. It hasn't helped that humans of certain persuasions and family histories have joined the Orion Pirates, at least there are rumors of such things, and helped them move things around on human worlds discretely. So even raised by unaffiliated humans on Earth, many Federation citizens are going to assume Mesk was a pirate anyway.

The Orions would have been able to put up a decent fight, but they wouldn’t have been able to inflict enough damage to take down a cube. You know, it's really hard to tell. She doesn't ACT like someone who was disowned by her family. She's very casual when she mentions that they didn't fully approve, and she seems embarrassed by her heritage, but overall? If she is full-on estranged, she's hiding it very well (could just be that good ol' Tendi cheerfulness). I always just assumed she was more like the black sheep of the family, getting teased/bullied by her relatives for going into Starfleet.

@@3Rayfire Good to know. Thanks for the info. I didn't even know there was such a thing. Well, I found the uniforms of the Wrath of the Khan film quite strange. It reminded me more of Canada's Mountain Police than Starfleet. At that time, they wanted to change everything to differentiate themselves from Star Trek - The Motion Picture. Which I think is a bit of a shame because the uniforms looked better there. On the C Enterprise they omitted the turtleneck, which I didn't like either. Maybe that's all there has to be to encourage the reinvention of the world of Star Trek. In any case, I think some uniforms are wonderful and some others shouldn't necessarily exist.🤓

@@harvey2906 Those red uniforms were Nicholas Meyer (the director, also did Star Trek VI) wanting to go for a more miltaristic affect. Also it helped that the Cast DESPISED the TMP uniforms with a passion. Gene loved the onesie style of the TMP and TNG season 1 & 2 uniforms, but there was a problem. For the TMP uniforms it was impossible to go to the bathroom in them, and the TNG uniforms caused some of the cast to have back problems. Futuristic space suit style without futuristic space suit comfort. I may be mistaken on this, but if memory serves the reason they took the turtle neck out of the 24th century version of the Monster Maroons is that they lost the Trapunto stitching machine that is actually needed to make it and the machine is very rare or at least was at the time before internet searches and Online retail. So they omitted it as a transition to the TNG uniforms.

They were more interested in pushing Aliens like the borg though. Though there are in-universe reasons for it anyway; -Orions are more notable in the pre-TNG era because as because most of the exploration was in reaches of their territory, but by the time of TNG, Starfleet was moving further and further out into the galaxy and away from the areas Orions most likely were to pirate. The Enterprise-D was exploring space that was often too far from anywhere. -Warp capabilities had improved quite a bit and many ships would easily now outrun the Orion ships. - In addition, ships were getting bigger and tougher. The Enterpise-D would have more then dealt with any Orion ship easily compared to the Enterpirse-A (the NX was taken over by a few girls). -By the Dominion war end, every new type of ship except a few could deal with anything a Orion pirate ship could throw at it. Orions were not a threat to the majority of the fleet of Starfleet. -By the time of the series "Picard", with the new Borg tech introduction, the Orions aren't even remotely a threat. - in addition, even dealing with their pheromones had become really easy and few captains would be caught off guard. Most ships knew how to deal with them and had protocols for this event. So, Orions had this issue too. It was easier to catch horny Kirk off guard then it was Picard or Riker. -Lastly, so many worlds had joined up with the federation that Orions were facing too much support from many worlds. Basically, they were replaced with the Ferengi in overall storyline in terms of money-peddling threats by DS9 and they pretty much replaced them in storyline usage overall/ TNG mostly dealt with new one-off species and bigger threats like the Klingons. Orions are still pirating, but pirating is getting harder and harder for their Race to maintain. These two aren't the only Orions seen in Starfleet; in Prodigy theres more Orions and in "Picard" theres a number seen having joined Starfleet as well. So the Orions are *there* but their race is changing and the closer you move from TOS the less you see them as pirates and the more you seem them in places like Starfleet. In SNW episode 'Those Old Scientists', Bolmier was pretty much stating by his century its wrong to presume all Orions are pirates (and Tendi herself hates the stereotype because it type casts them into niche roles). Tendi also refuses to use pheromones to manipulate and from the looks of things this is common for Starfleet Orions - they don't use them and it seems to have become a bit of a taboo. Overall the storyline didn't give much chances for the re-appearance of older species anyhow, as I mentioned Picard's D spent most of its time on rim worlds and exploring the edges of the Alpha/Beta Quadrant. Until Janeway's Voyager trip through the Delta Quadrant, Kirk's Enterprise held the record for the most alien species encounters, Picard was exploring a shrinking Galaxy as a result with much of it mapped out. Exploring the Delta and Gamma Quadrant was the new meta by DS9 and Voyageur for this reason, leaving Orion based storylines very much behind. It was even noted by Janeway that Kirk's era is the age of discovery and she wished herself she'd been alive during that time with Tuvok having been part of Sulu's crew as Vulcan's lived a long time, he got to experience the golden age of space exploration. This is also why, by the time of Picard, we see things become more diplomatic, with Starfleet just maintaining peace and order much of the time. Anyway, I hope this helped overall put things in perspective. I will note one more thing and that due to make up and limitations, they were reluctant to use long-term aliens overall among Starfleet crews in TNG, DS9 and VOY, because of the cost and impact to the actors psyche at times, often actors were in masks and makeup only foer short periods (especially one-off species and members of a species). Though we got Nilex (excuse spelling) in VOY, not every actor was great with facial masks. Babylon 5, which was about this era, had the same problem and it featured more aliens in crowds overall. There was at least one actress whose role had to be reduced because her Narn mask would make her feel like she was suffocating. Between bigger budgets, training for actors to cope with the masks and CGI, its a lot easier to feature more aliens on-screen overall, especially in crews and Starfleet is becoming less and less human-obessed. whereas TOS and TNG is like 99% human at times, many modern Trekkie series have larger % of crew that are aliens. It was rare in TNG you saw Andorians and Tellerites despite them and Vulcans being the founders alongside humans.
