Some things you should know about Puerto de la Cruz:it is located on the north,the sea is much brave there than in the south with strong currents,in winter most of days there is red flag,meaning not available for swimming,in the summer is softer and thus available for bathing many days and a delicious experience,on the other part of the City is located the "Lago Martianez",a fabulous lido where you can take a bath most of days,may I say that many tourists enjoy watching the braveness of the ocean in this part of the island,also Puerto was the first resort in Tenerife welcoming people before the age of mass tourismAgatha Christie,the Beatles and Winston Churchill were among notable britons who in the past visited Puerto de la Cruz

I agree...Been back there at least five times...But if you want loud disco music and tourists all over the place this is not the place to come. The place has a real old Spanish feel to the town and the locals are really friendly.

I visited once a few years ago, and decided next time i went to Tenerife I would stay there. Yes it's full of old people, but the huge crashing waves on the rocks around the beautiful old town with the backdrop of a snow capped Teide rising above pine forests was just other worldly.

You never went into Puerto De La Cruz centre !....there you would have found a cosmopolitan traditional Spanish town , great hotels , great restaurants and sophisticated bars .....you won't find egg and chips and 1 euro pints ....

@@TheMacMaster ....nope , that's the best beach ...the centre is great for 30+ couples I'd say who enjoy eating out , strolling around , a bit of shopping and cafe culture around the squares .....not really recommended for young families though .....get in a decent hotel without evening meal and you'll really enjoy a week there ...

@@TheMacMaster Playa Jardin is the best beach, only you need to be out of Covid times and perhaps a sunnier day... It is very nice but if you are looking for british pubs and the like, best search for that in Blackpool...Ugh !

Hi Lee, Great to hear you're planning on exploring the North of Tenerife when you return on the 21st Aug. There is so much to see and do. I may be biased but think you'll discover some truly exceptional scenery and activities. Hopefully on your return to Puerto de la Cruz you'll have the opportunity to see this in a different light. I think due to time constraints on your last visit this wasn't possible. The overcast conditions didn't help either, in showing this at its best. The view when travelling across the top of the town towards Lorro Parque are wonderful, especially the landscaped cactus gardens and lush vegetation which hugs the beach provide a beautiful setting. I've collated a must see and do for Puerto, and hope you find this useful. Lago Martianez - Luxurious outdoor swimming pools set in a sub-tropical setting. This for me is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful areas to relax during the day in Puerto. Nestled between the ocean and seafront promenade, with views of Tiede are spectacular. This is not a water park. It was designed by Lanazarote architect Cesar Manrique, many of his works can be seen on other islands in the Canaries. In my opinion this 5 star activity open to the public, is very reasonable priced. The Largo Martinez is also home to the relocated Casino (the original - now Hotel Taoro can be seen high up in Taoro Parque). The newer casino opens at night beneath the swimming complex. Turn right and there is the surfers beach, which is always a source of entertainment day or night, where locals and holiday makers congregate around the cafes and bars just relaxing and people watching. Turn left and meander along the promenade overlooking the crashing waves below in the rock pools. Continue past the beautiful churches and down into the main square of Plaza Del Charco. This is the town's hub, surrounded by restaunts and cafes. Here you can access the Ranilla District, known for exemplary Canarian cuisine with reputedly some of the best chefs in Tenerife. The list of nightlife in Puerto is endless so here's a link from a local ex-pat who lives there - therealtenerife.com/posts/guide-to-nightlife-in-puerto-de-la-cruz/ Casa Abaco listed in this link is also open at certain times during the day (please check before visiting). This is highly recommend and often overlooked by many. A modest entrance fee offers the opportunity to walk round this historic building and grounds which doubles as an exclusive nightspot later in the evening. One thing to note - Puerto nightlife starts much later than some visitors may realise. Rest assured though it continues all night long! Just ask a local resident where to go and they'll point you in the right direction. In the La Paz District of Puerto you can enjoy the Botanical Gardens and surrounding restaurants and cafes found in this area. A walk up from the old town to Parque Taoro (the site of the original Casino) is rewarded with breathtaking views from the cafe at the top. Continue on from the viewing area and the park offers a relaxing setting in landscaped surroundings. Tip - a taxi might be desired going up, although the gradual inclined walking route may be preferable over the steps which provided a quicker, although steeper alternative. Finally, no trip to Puerto or Tenerife is complete without visiting Lorro Parque previously mentioned. To see everything in a single day would be challenging, so don't miss out of reduced return second visits. Just ask at the ticket shop before you leave! Hope this is useful Lee, and I'm sure you'll enjoy all of what Puerto and the North has to offer on your return visit to the island on the 21st Aug 2020.

This is not fair reflection at all, much more to it culture scenery is something else agreed when the suns out ,lido for one is worth a day although whack the cream on sun burn hotspot 😂 no it’s not always cloudy been going 4 times a year since I was 4 . Hi Lee you didn't even make it into Puerto del a Cruz check out some of the other videos on Puerto del Cruz have been there ten times and prefer it to the south . The south seems to have as much culture as the people arriving on the planes to visit it . Having spent some time in Los Christianos on the way to the airport where you can barely walk a cross the the promanade without being chaperoned into some bar or restaurant by a student taking a year out where fish and chips is displayed on the menu by a faded photograph and you sit on plastic patio furniture you know you've hit the big time! Now if only we could get a big heater for Blackpool

@@AwesomeGee There is a free bus to the shopping center that Primark is in, it takes over an hour, you just need to spend €10 in the center to get free return trip.Its a big center with a food court C&A Carefour, etc. in it. And also a hugh department store just down the way from it; El Courte Inglaise. The shopping center with Primark is called Centro Comercial Meridano, well worth a visit, Santa Cruz itself if beautiful.

I don't like playa jardin beach. But ya never even hit the main part of puerto de la Cruz. There is so much more to the town than what you have showed. Yes it's not got the hussle and bustle of the south. But that is part of its charm.

That isn’t Puerto de la Cruz, been many times, it has some good Local restaurants serving typical Canadian food, a flower market. A decent bus station, because it’s so green there is more rain.

It is difficult to park and it depends in which part you want to go. Near Playa Jardin you should find a space nearby. Nearer the town itself, parking el Muelle which is huge and free or underground Europa which you pay for. Up at la Paz you should find some space. Near Martianez it is almost imossible, best el Muelle and walk a bit, it is pleasant and interesting.

I love your channel but I am quite disappointed with this one. Not a fair account of Puerto de la Cruz, which is literally one of the nicest resorts in the region, if we are talking about niceness and not just cheap pints. To start, Los Cristianos beach wouldn't look much nicer on a cloudy day, but fair enough the North does get more of those than the South. You missed the Plaza del Charco and the general centre, full of some of the nicest restaurants you would ever find, and where you can taste local dishes and amazing homemade food. The other side of time, starting from the Plaza del Charco and walking towards Playa de Martiánez along the San Telmo promenade is beautiful. The Plaza de la Iglesia is lovely also. There is also Parque Taoro, which is lovely in the afternoon, full of people working out, walking their dogs or just enjoying the park. I could go on and on, and not even put a dent in how much of Puerto was missed, and then I would still have to start with the North in general. Might not be tourist-ville, but Puerto de la Cruz is damn close to being one of the nicest places on the Island. And having "Is the north grim?" in the title is just not nice at all. One last thing, most of the North is still recovering from storm damage and from the fact that during the calima their were more fires than could be managed due to the dryness of the air, calima and heat. Literally fires burining on palm trees in the middle of towns, next to schools and people's houses. So a lot of the damage is due to that. Can't defend the state of that damn pool, the Cabildo (local Island government) was supposed to provide a big budget to refurbish it but it must be delayed.

And trust me, the resorts in the South cannot compare to Puerto and other places in the North, even the local villages were tourists never go, for food.

Puerto De La Cruz is more of a residential, rather than a touristy, part of Tenerife. It gets a lot less sunshine and a lot more rain than the South. Having said that, there's some good shopping to be had there. Get your butt over to Lanzarote, there are lots of vlogs, but none as informative as yours. Puerto Del Carmen is well worth a visit - new and old towns. Did you know that you can Island-hop on Canarian airways for as little as €12 one way? Go to either TFN or TFS airports and check out Binter airways.

Puerto De La Cruz is my favorite location on Tenerife, it has an awesome atmosphere all the time, and things are a bit cheaper there. The waves are strong, and it rains more though. Also, those rocks on the side of the beach used to be stacked on top of each other in many small towers, but someone went and destroyed them..

we only went to a zoo up that way' it was a lot more greener than the south but we had a little walk round and i would say its more traditionl,local residential properties up there. rather quiet but each to his own. the zoo was brill but i must say it was nice to get back to adeje and the holiday was on again lol.

I stayed in puerto de la Cruz in the 80’s all I remember is their were loads of lido pools and it was mostly cloudy. I hired a beach buggy & drove to the south & after that I never went back to the north. Get back & enjoy 😊 Tony

That doesn't ring any bells I went a few years ago the should be a massive pool for people to use called lido or somthing and it's never sunny because of mount tide but you do get burnt trust me I know lol no idea where abouts you are though you been drinking 🍻 😂😂😂😂

@@TheMacMaster The beach I was thinking of is Playa Martianez same name as the Lido, there is a Fund Grub shop in front of it, and a Mc Donalds near by lol.The wally trolly you saw at loro park starts at the Mc Donalds.

Passed through today it was epic sun blaze.., but I'm with ya. Not the same buzz. For a quieter family styled holiday I love Icod los Vinos and the coast next to it, but then again I absolutely love local wine!!!

A bit late to comment but...Playa Jardin is verrry pleasant, try it again nowadays. Then please go see the rest of the city, you have missed 70 % of it. Also climb up to Taoro Park, la Paz, the Agatha Christie steps... You need more than a couple of hours in P de la C ! I find it much much better the the Veronicas strip !!!! Oh dear.

I've just come back peorta del la Cruz wouldn't say grim but get,s very cloudy cold in evening not great deal place,s dine i ended up going south island on day pass unlimited card about 40 minutes Santa Cruz 50 minutes Santa Cruz los cristiniana or Costa adeje rained bit last 2 day,s but wouldn't recommend peorta del Cruz if self catering better in Los cristonas or America's no beach either black sand peorta del Cruz

Neil, the town I know has lovely green scenery and banana plantations. I am not a beach person so suits me well. The video is not showing the Puerto I know and love, it has character, a lovely walk into the old town. That is not on the video😂. I like Los Cristianos, I found las America’s rather soulless. Lee, hope you don’t mind commenting on the video.

Anita M tbf it is in need of some reservations and tlc. It just doesn’t have the vibe that the south has. I can stay home in Yorkshire and see green everywhere I look. I love the beach. It’ll be ideal to visit when I’m 80+ haha. Sorry my love if I’ve offended you.

@@PeterPan-oz4sq Hi Neil, no not offended I live in a seaside town down South! It’s an Island cut in half, the South dry and arid but mainly purpose built. The North described as sub tropical, always fancied La Gomera lol.

@@PeterPan-oz4sq if you just like the beaches and if vegetation and scenery is not so important to you then fuertenventura is the place for you to be. Sand everywhere, long natural beaches and very little greenery and vegetation. You should go there if you are a desert, sun and sand type of person. Most of us do enjoy lush forests and greenery though. Very important.
