Currently, the Romerías are huge street festivals. These celebrations find great influx of people of all ages. Highlights are the floats, pulled by bulls or oxen. They are accompanied by folk songs and dances to the rhythm of the popular parrandas.
Romerías - pilgrimages with folk festival character. Fun, Canarian food, singing, dancing and lots of people who want to have fun are the ingredients of the pilgrimage in honor of St. Isidore of Madrid in La Orotava. The pilgrimage, whose origins date back to the 17th century, passes through the streets in the center of the town.
The streets of the town are filled with color and the best atmosphere. Decorated two-wheeled floats pass by and everywhere there are wrinkled potatoes, boiled eggs, gofio, pinchos, traditional foods and vino tinto. Everyone is wearing typical costumes and enjoying the festivities they've been looking forward to all year.
