This aiport was the scene of a terrible accident involving a collision of two 747's in 1977. Poor visibility caused by thick fog in the mountainous location was a contributing factor. This accident is the reason they built the southern airport.

T.Airport south was built with British taxpayers money then sold at a loss by the next UK Government (I read somewhere)
