In this fight scene Neil is actually battling himself from the future. Tenet looks great in the 4k HDR and would of been worth seeing in the IMAX. I hope you appreciate the video quality as much as I do.
Tenet is a 2020 science fiction action-thriller film written and directed by Christopher Nolan, who produced it with Emma Thomas. A co-production between the United Kingdom and United States, it stars John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Michael Caine, and Kenneth Branagh.
In a twilight world of international espionage, an unnamed CIA operative, known as The Protagonist, is recruited by a mysterious organization called Tenet to participate in a global assignment that unfolds beyond real time. The mission: prevent Andrei Sator, a renegade Russian oligarch with precognition abilities, from starting World War III. The Protagonist will soon master the art of "time inversion" as a way of countering the threat that is to come

It would be one thing if 'reverse' objects could be created and sent backwards through time one-way, but the entropy reverser device violates temporal causality. It's easy to cheat your mind around where the logic collapses by defaulting the thinking to the common idea that all of time is 'pre-solved' but really, the excuse of 'it has already happened' is just a directive to... not worry about the paradoxes, just trust that it all makes sense in the end. From forward Protagonist's perspective, the gun is only part of the fight because inverted Protagonist "assembles" it when the fight starts. But from inverted Protagonist's perspective, he's only able to do so because forward Protagonist already has the gun when the fight starts. The more I think about this movie, the more paradoxes I notice. Not that that's a bad thing. I think it's cool. Edit: It's been brought to my attention that inverted Protagonist has the gun after getting sucked out of the building/before being blown into it. Maybe the real gun was the friends we made along the way.

Inverted protagonist brings the gun with him as he’s sucked into the building, and dissembles it before jumping into the turnstile so that his forward self couldn’t use it on him. Although, from forward protagonist’s perspective, that would be him picking up a functional gun before the fight and then shooting inverted protagonist as he comes out of the turnstile.

1:56 This part struck me the most. Normally, it looks like the reversed protagonist (RTP) is getting a hold of the protagonist (TP) from behind. Allowing the RTP to get a hold of him. But when reversed, it's the TP who gets the hold of him because he throws him down from the back.
@ReMattch
@ReMattch Жыл бұрын
Interesting. I was always puzzled on how a forward moving person's actions impact an inverted person. From the inverted angle, Forward TP appears to be winning the fight, and it's actions like that flip you mentioned that make it seem so. But from the forward angle, Forward TP is under the assumption he's defending himself against an assailant trying to kill him. So you'd think Inverted TP would have the advantage since he's approaching the fight from the future, but Forward TP appears to be giving Inverted TP a run for his money. What do you think is the "energy" behind it that makes Forward TP "win" against Inverted TP from the inverted angle?
@ExcuseMyWeebRudeness
@ExcuseMyWeebRudeness Жыл бұрын
@@ReMattch It’s his adaptation that is the deciding factor. For forward protagonist, as he continues the fight, he gets more used to the bizzare movements of his reverse self, while simultaneously his reverse self is getting less used to fighting as his beginning is the forward’s end. The same is true if you flip it, as the end for reverse protagonist is when he’s most used to the fight and forward protagonist just started.

I remember when me and my friend saw this movie in IMAX here in Sweden and I was on the edge of my seat through the entire fight. This fightscene are one of my absolute favorites. Love every part of it, as well as the other ones in the movie. The choreography in this scene is insane! Love the way the inverted man moves backwards in time. The best parts for me in this fightscene are when then inverted man comes out of the turnstile and fires the gun, when he´s crawling on the floor and his reversed backflip, which is absolutley insane. Such an intense scene. Love it. Ludwig Göransson´s music are phenomenal in this movie. I got so pissed when I found out that he didn´t get nominated an Oscar for this movie. He became one of my favorite composers after I heard his music in TENET. He has a bright future ahead of him as a composer. Love from a fellow Swede.

I absolutely love how this fight gets completely re-contextualized when you see the inverted version, and it makes sense why the protagonist thought the inverted guy was trying to fight him. For example, the struggle over the gun definitely feels to the protagonist like this man in black is trying to shoot him. Since the inverted protagonist is trying to pull the gun away from his past self's head, reversed, that's gonna feel like he's pushing it towards the normal protagonist's head. Then there's the gun throughout the entire fight. Normal protag tries to kick the gun away from his opponent, and keep it out of his hands. But his opponent keeps wrestling his way over to the gun. From the inverted protag's perspective, he's trying to wrestle his past self AWAY from the gun, but it keeps coming back when the protagonist un-kicks it. Both are trying so hard to get the gun out of the picture from their own perspective, but since actions are reversed, their actions appear to each other to be an attempt to bring it back into the picture. But I think the real brilliance is that so much of what the inverted man does seems like scary inversion black magic. He does backflips that pull him out of the protagonist's choke hold. He leaps impossibly off the ground. And when the protagonist corners him, he randomly flies across the floor and out of the room. Fighting inverted people is so scary! But when we see it from the inverted perspective, none of this stuff is actually all that crazy. He was blown into the room by the jet engine. He fell down onto the ground. He was flipped over the protagonist's head. Turns out, he's not some seasoned time-reversing warrior, turning time jank to his advantage, he's just the protagonist, trying to get to the turnstile. Not so scary, just confusing lol Finally, if you really think about it, wrestling an inverted person must be easy. If I'm pushing against you, but you're inverted, you're going to feel me pulling on you. So from your perspective, you can push me practically anywhere you want, and the same goes for me. Since the protagonist isn't initially trying to push his opponent anywhere, just subdue him, the fight just kinda goes where it goes. But since the inverted protagonist is trying to get to the turnstile, he's able to basically directly beeline for it without any real detours. It's such a good little piece of logistical flavor, and the movie draws zero attention to it. This scene and its inverted companion have to be the greatest time-related fight scene(s) of all time. The cinematography, the choreography, all of it is incredibly well thought out and well executed. This movie is riddled with plot holes, but it's so well executed, I can't bring myself to care at all. One of my favorite movies of all time, absolutely incredible.

@foop145
@foop145 7 ай бұрын
@@Mio248 It's been a hot second since I saw this, but the most egregious plot hole I remember is the physical formula macguffin. This entire organization is built around preventing it from reaching the future, yeah? So why, exactly, do they not destroy every piece they come across, instead opting to intentionally let them fall into the bad guy's hands? Even if the protagonist is afraid of altering what he's already experienced, they still decide to bury the formula pieces after they win, rather than just blowing it up or dropping it in a volcano or something. Their solution is to just hide it really really really good and hope it all works out. Totally nonsensical. For that matter, why did the scientist who created it even bother with a physical copy at all? She knew it was too dangerous to risk it falling into the hands of the people in the future, so why would she ever decide to do anything but destroy all evidence? Why would she create a copy, and send it backwards in time where it can be found by people allied with the future??? There's also more minimal stuff, like the chase scene, where the inverted protagonist gets into a car wreck at the end. The gasoline leaking out of the car burns when Sator lights it on fire, but the car freezes over, which means the gasoline is inverted but the car isn't, which should work about as well as inverted oxygen in normal lungs. Or there's the building which blows up both inverted and non-inverted, which would have to mean it was constructed as an exploded building andsat around for years, just so it could reconstruct itself before getting blown up. Or there's the fact that bullets traveling in the opposite temporal direction will irradiate your wound and kill you, but knives don't, instead giving you an inverted wound which bullets don't seem to do. This movie is one of my favorite movies of all time, and it's hard for me to fault it for this stuff. When time travel is involved, it's practically impossible to avoid plot holes like this. So I'm willing to give it a pass where other movies wouldn't get one. But that doesn't mean the plot holes aren't there.

This movie has tiny terror-elements to it, the creepiness of knowing "It's about to go down right now." Specifically 1:00 you can see the inverted smoke starting to collect back to its origin, and also later with the cracked side mirror on the car un-breaking. You don't know what is about to happen, but that something is coming.

Before I saw the movie, and only this scene and the comments, I had a different idea of what was going on and it was pretty funny. I didn’t know the turnstiles fed into each other, so I assumed that Neil was the one running past Neil and the turnstiles were just a traveling device to come back out at a different time. But in my head it was the reverse protagonist being a noob about the whole thing and reverse Neil playing dead in the hallway until forward Neil puts the mask back on him so he can stand up backwards and run backwards all the way to the turnstile so forward Neil thought he was chasing reverse Neil. That was hilarious to think of.

I've seen a lot of people asking questions about the glass wall. How did the holes get there? Were they already there? As I understand it, when that glass wall was first installed, the holes were never there. It's over time, and getting closer to the event, that it has all started to happen. It's obvious those bullet holes weren't already there during the installation of the wall. It's a case of a slow appearance. The holes very slowly, very gradually began to form. Because the event has already been willed to happen by the riot gear protagonist shooting the wall. By the time the forward moving protagonist and Neil are about to enter the room, the holes have fully formed. It's like the Opera. That bullet hole has been willed to occur within the existing universe. So that wall gradually begin to slowly deteriorate into a bullet hole. Which is where Neil comes back from the future to save the protagonist by "catching" the bullet, with the bullet escaping from the wall and passing through the shooter

It is an inconsistence in the movie, to my knowledge. The glas is an not invertet object and the holes should not be there at the beginning. The holes should come during the fight by the bullets flying"back" into the gun. Objects not invertet still need an actio and cannot work against their own time. The invertet protagonist shoots in his perspictive in the holes and repairs the glass. It is the same principle they use in other scenes, for example when the protaagonist gets gis first invertion: the water flying back to his feet.

From a physics pov this cannot happen because it violates causality ( cause precedes effects always). Also if someone like here can influence the past from future the signs would always been there from the very moment the soldier shoot at the glass…

One of the truths of Tenet and temporal pincer operations is... As time flows naturally forwards, all perceptually inverted materials will inevitably converge at an inversion chamber and disappear. Therefore, if all further Tenet operations cease, all evidence of all temporal pincer movements will inevitably cease to exist.

Best time travel movie ever made. Or at least, my favorite. And yes, I know BACK TO THE FUTURE exists. TENET is a modern masterpiece that, like many masterpieces, isn’t immediately appreciated in its time. BLADE RUNNER, UNBREAKABLE, DONNIE DARKO, etc. This film is such a singular and thrilling thing to exist, something that could’ve only been made by the artist who made it *when* he made it in his career, and I appreciate its perfect cocktail of brains and thrills so much I can’t even explain

Love the movie, I saw with a friend and he pointed out the gun in the room beforehand and said it was a paradox cause timewise when did the gun land on the floor. I explained the gun was inverted and still traveling backwards in time from when he had brought it in which is a big point in the movie that items themselves are also still moving backwards indefinitely as remnants from the fights. So the gun had been on the ground for an indefinite amount of negative minutes.

Nah you're off and your friend is correct. From the moment the windows in the room were installed (no bullet holes then), at what point in time did the bullet holes appear to anyone moving in forward time direction in the room between time of installation and the fight occuring?
