👍🏻. Yeah. I’ve been doing tenkara for the past 2 yrs (I am a dry fly rod reel guy) and I’m like the tenkara style a lot. I use dry fly and make leader from old 2w fly line.

It always looks so peaceful along that stretch of the river.

Thanks Dave, I need a bit of peace as I am struggling with a new computer and lost a lot of data off my old one.

Well done Peter, I have yet to put a Tenkara in my hands. I just had a terrible encounter with some Nettles in the Sierra recently. Hate them!

Thanks you for your comments. I am only a beginner with Tenkara but I think it is best on small streams. On your great rivers it might be a challenge.

Hello Peter Enjoyed watching your tenkara fishing, very relaxing type of fishing with minimal equipment required. Very interested in the make of tenkara rod you are using and is the line a furled line ? Keep posting the videos they are a pleasure to watch David

Thank you David for your nice comments. The Tenkara rod I use is called a Aventik IM12 Nano 10ft 8inches in 9 sections. I think I said on the video it was 9ft 6 inches which was wrong. It is a furled line which came with the rod. I think there is plenty of room to experiment with different lines etc. but I am happy at the moment while I am learning to fish this way. Peter

@@peterfrost5475 Thank you for the information Peter much appreciated, hopefully looking forward to trying out tenkara next season on my local streams,think your right that it's a more delicate way of presenting a fly and definitely less luggage to cart around 😀 looking forward to more of your exploits on you tube. Regards David

Silly question, but could you fish a tenkara rod on canals? I always fancied targeting the perch in my local canal with a fly rod, but I've never cast a conventional fly rod before, and the tenkara rods look much easier to cast
@peterfrost54752 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes the casting is easier and I think you could use it on a canal with a little fish like fly for perch. The only draw back is the length of cast a 10 foot rod and 14 foot line gives you 24 foot length of cast. The bigger the river the longer the rod you want. Thanks for your question, good luck.

@@peterfrost5475 As you know UK canals are not that wide Peter, so just out of interest, what length would you advise, between 10 - 11 feet perhaps?
@peterfrost54752 жыл бұрын
@@peteredwards1528 I think a rod of 11 feet would be fine. You can also get tenkara rods that can be fished at different lengths.

What you should try is to grab the line in your hand and drop the rod to hand line the fish close then net it,this is how I teach my students , then there is no undue strain on the tip section of rod.

Many thanks, you explained that very well. I look forward to April 1st to follow your advice.

Hello, I hope to try the Tenkara rod on grayling in the winter.

In the US, I use a tenkara rod to catch what we call "bream" (bluegill, which are a kind of sunfish) and small bass, in addition to trout. What I like about this style is the way traditional tenkara flies (called kebari) are very versatile. I can often simply change the color of the fly if something isn't working, and don't need to carry many patterns at all.

Your line and cast is to long for a 9 ft tenkara rod
