One would think racquet companies cared more about us non-pro players. Who do they think pays their bills, pro’s sure don’t. The only company I have seen that cares anything about QC is Yonex. You are spot on with all of your comments.

Indirectly pros absolutely pay their bills. Why do you think so many players played with babolats growing up? It 'the' goal for why companies sponsor big athletes, get eyes on your brand.

Indirectly? Do the pro’s go to a shop and pay for their racquet’s, nope. The majority do not even play with the racquet they “endorse”. They play with pro stock which us non-pro’s cannot get. Racquet companies mis-lead the public. I beg to differ, without us racquet companies would go under.

It's kind of hard to figure out where the racquet are made. I had to do some serious digging to confirm that Yonex is the only company that doesn't make their racquets in a factory in China.

Not a physicist (just a mathematician) here, but I imagine the vibration magnitude would be very complicated to report. Even the vibration frequency is simplifying things a lot, because there are most likely many different frequencies present in the vibrations, each at a different magnitude.

Manufactures will alway try to sell you their products. I'm a photographer as well, the camera doesn't make you a good photographer, it's your talent to understand how light behave. Same is with tennis, it's your talent and your abilities not the racket that makes you a better tennis player. Careful with the rackets you choose, I play with a lot of people whom carry every type of racket in their bag and they keep on switching it. Myself I have two, if one breaks, I take the other one. But them I'm not a profesional. The pros, I may bet is they have the same racket, with the same tension and the same string. Have fun playing is, my moto!

Knowledge is power. Only the ignorant claims otherwise. I learn tons of good info here. And yes. We need feedback for our muscle memories to properly work. With Head racquets i get that sensation that makes the racquet ”predictable” but never harsh. With my prior overdamped racquets i got nothing. And hence i sprayed balls everywhere. Now i know at hit if the ball is going out or in at +/- 30 cm at the baseline. That is a predictable racquet.
@DavidBazalar
@DavidBazalar Жыл бұрын
On the speculated vibration magnitude variable. If you want to follow the earthquake analogy thoroughly, the proper name would be vibration intensity. To put it in layman terms, the key parameter is the coupled characteristic frequency of the racquet connected with the player and the vibration (set of amplitudes/frequencies) generated when hitting the ball (there should be a classification of different type of solicitations depending on your and your opponent play style, your racquet setup, and your forearm length perhaps). If this external frequency set overlaps with the coupled characteristic frequency of the racquet and the player: You should have resonance, which is an out-of-control jerkiness, which will be felt as extreme vibration intensity. The big question is: Is that possible? You will need to ball-park these inner and outer frequency variables to find if resonance is actually feasible. If not (and this is probably the case), then the stiffness variable is enough.

Hey Beckett, nice video very informative. I was looking for some information on strings. I bought and strung a brand new racquet and been using it a few hours. I noticed a weird buzzing sound on impact of the stringbed, balls and even when bumping my palm on it. Almost like a harmonic frequency. But after hitting a couple more hours with it, the sound disappeared. I'm probably being paranoid, also because I framed quite a few shots and was wondering if that had anything to do with it? I'd appreciate any input/thoughts you may have on this. Thanks ☺️

THIS is the very compendium about racquet specs. Usually I give a sh..., test a racquet and feel the difference. I recently bought my very first racquet without testing it and it proved to work quite well. The more you know, the more you can select prior to testing (or even buy without). Very useful video.

Would be cool if manufacturers reported what their "acceptable" tolerances for static and swing weight are.

I think Babolat is the only one that clearly states +/-7g for static weight. They get credit for being clear, but that’s such a crazy range that all credit is lost.
@tafder
@tafder Жыл бұрын
@@TennCom imagine if you buy 2 sticks, get really unlucky, and they differ by 14g static near 12 o'clock. Recovering that with customisation will be a bit of a challenge. I guess that's why prostocks are so light out of the line. There's a company in the UK called Angell sports that do "their own frames". Reading about their process, it sounds to me like they get light frames from china, then finish it in house to keep QC at a high standard.

@tenncom Well done! good summary, one thing i would like to mention. in my opinion, twistweight is also responsible for a muted feel in a racquet. i did an experiment, i took 2 racquets, same model with same specs but 1 tuned with twistweight at 13.5 and the other at 14.5 tw. guess what, the one with less tw felt less muted since the lower tw gives you more feedback. so maybe the old vintage racquets didnt have more feel, but they only had less tw :)

This is a very hot take but I agree. More TW means less vibration off centre means less feel

I play more doubles today than singles . I wish an allround and powerful racket .I tryed Pro Kennex Q5 X PRO comfortable but not more powerful with the same string. On paper the ezone 98 is perfect for me. But having played with some friends Yonex racquets, it seems that muted feel is part of the brand. I love the quality of the racquets, but they feel so different, and I do feel disconnected. For reference, I use a Pure Drive Cortex 2006 weighted up to ~340g (mostly in handle but some in throat and 10/2 as well). 🙃 I keep telling myself I need to modernize the racquet I play with but so far haven't quite found the right weapon (no way the issues in my game are my fault, it's the racquet!). Would definitely love a bit better maneuverability for doubles but man that thing is great for service return.
