On this week's episode of Pancakes & Bacon, VFL Kyler Kerbyson and Reed Bacon are looking to make sense of the ass-whooping Tennessee took against Ohio State. Kyler loves the heart he showed but was disappointed in Nico’s decision-making and awareness on the field. Reed was upset with the offense but really thinks the defense, being the strength of our team, was what hurt the Vols the most. It's a BIG episode so there's a lot to talk about... I live in Columbus. Not an OSU fan. I have to say, Tennessee fans came here and made asses of themselves. "Neyland North", "Checker the Shoe", shirtless during warmups, etc. C'mon. Shut up and play. This isn't just a loss for UT, it actually brings to question the entire SEC dominance theory. For decades, Big Ten teams had to play bowl games in the South in what is really a home game for the southern school. But, when the almighty SEC comes to a northern stadium and had to play in the cold, they get their asses handed to them. Bottom line..... UT is not in OSU's league and ain't ever gonna be...

People need to remember that just 4 years ago we were 2 - 8 with that being said the only thing that concerns me with this coaching staff is never doing halftime or in-game adjustments and like a previous comment said in this game there's never any wrinkles in the offense and apparently it's been the exact same since 2021 and has been slowed down the last 2 years because everybody knows exactly what's coming. I don't know if Heupel needs to hire a new offensive coordinator and just bring in a whole new offense but something definitely needs to change to win big games

TN has had zero creative offensive plays calls…..2 seasons now
@Tony-mr1iv
@Tony-mr1iv Ай бұрын
Yet they had good offenses. You’re being blinded by a heisman caliber QB and receiver. Defenses adjust. They’ll stop that offense at all costs. Heupel adjusted based on their adjustments, and STILL there’s atleast 3-4 deep balls schemed wide open a game. We just haven’t hit them. We know the offense is “simple” and not “creative.” It wasn’t creative in 2022 either. The creativity of the offense isn’t based on play calls, it’s based on the actual set up of the offense. Thats how it has been the whole damn time. Watch the 2022 offense. Watch how many times we ran we screens and 5 yard hitches. Just because we actually hit on deep balls didn’t change the offense. Heupel knew what he had this year and adjusted to help our Heisman caliber RB and the defense was one of the best in the nation. Remember when people were saying that’s not possible with his offense? We lost in embarrassing fashion to OSU. But stop with this nonsense that is just flat out incorrect and an insult to your own intelligence.

@Tony-mr1iv Ай бұрын
@@appalachhaun_adventures You’re not understanding. The offense doesn’t function off of “creative” play calls. The offense works based on spacing and tempo. It’s a simple offense. IT ALWAYS HAS BEEN. Put simply, you’re talking out of your behind. Because if you hate this offense, you hated the 2022 offense. You don’t know football. That’s okay, but listen when someone is telling you that you’re not understanding something. Heupel has actually developed to an even better play caller based on his players available. We haven’t had Hyatt or Hooker. What we did in 2022 hasn’t been possible. We’ve seen deep balls missed all year. Hopefully Nico will get it together next year. But execution has been the issue. Losing to OSU was acceptable, of course. First 12 team playoff game, big stakes, against the most loaded team in the country. Losing the way we did was absolutely unacceptable, In every facet of the game.......... 10 minutes out of 60 were competitive. Every single problem that we saw during the regular season got put under a microscope on National TV. I don't know if we would have won against OSU at Neyland, even playing a good game. How many down to the wire close games did we win this year there? Ironically, the best game we played this year was against Vandy. What I'm trying to say is that Heupel is a totally different coach on the road vs home. Extremely different. And that needs to change Also, I watched nearly every OSU game this year, you are right Reed, they never played this physically tough all season. They got ready for us and beat us at our own game

The offense has been generic all season. Very boring. Absent of big plays against talented teams. Hazle is not even on the same planet as Golesh. He needs to go. He’s pathetic. The WR’s coach, Pope, needs to go. His WR’s aren’t physical and can’t get separation. OL coach, Elarbee, needs to go. His OL has sucked since he’s been there. Swiss cheese. The DL may be over rated as well. They rarely put a ton of pressure on a QB. Even against teams they had far more talent than. The secondary under Martinez has been horrible. He had a few good years at Georgia but aside from that when has he ever been a top tier secondary coach. Heupel is going to have to make some coaching changes and if he doesn’t, the Vols will forever be a 8 to 11 win team but never a national champion. The teams winning the national championship have top tier position coaches and are spending $20 mil plus to get the 5 star mercenaries needed to win it all.

This one was great for us and tough for you but just three weeks ago we were as surprised and stunned as you when Wolverines pulled upset and our coaches looked like idiots. I’m not saying that luck determines the outcomes. I’m only say that football is an amazingly complex game in which a mistake by one man can negate perfect execution by the other ten and the wheels can fall off a good team with surprising ease. As a fan it is the opposite, all we can do is root and support the team we love and your fans turned up did that well.

Reed I agree it isn’t Golesh offense. I do think Golesh runs circles around Halzey. I think Golesh attitude was cut throat and he ran more wrinkles. If it is not having the dogs then we have to agree that Pruett was a great recruiter and evaluator of talent.

Horrible draw for UT. OSU was just a complete mismatch at every position except for kicker/punter. Throw is the huge speed advantage, coaching advantage, and weather advantage, this outcome was expected. UT didn’t respect the weather, or adjust for it. So many cramps and muscle injuries. Even though your body isn’t telling to it’s thirsty, like in the heat, you still have to hydrate, or it’s cramp city. And yes, cold dry air will make you cough if you’re unprepared. If this game takes place in Neyland, maybe a little closer, but still a dominant win, OSU better at each position group.

I have been concerned all year with our receivers not getting open. And it killed us. They exposed our linebackers constantly. But I agree with josh pate. Osu has probably the best roster and they finally showed up. I love being a vols fan though. Went to mizzou game at mizzou and vols fans took over a restaurant and sang "it's good to be a tennessee vol" over an̈d over on campus. Can't wait for our young guys to keep developing and to see where the guys go in the draft

You guys changed my mind on receivers. Yeah I have to admit I spend a lot if time asking the same questions of Nico that I did of joe. Why aren't you throwing the ball? You had a dude breaking open. Why are you dancing?

The fans do have control …. When you say you’re gonna rip the goal posts down and into the river and plant a flag and call it Neyland north …. You didn’t do that.

The problem is Tennessee fans think they are anywhere close to Ohio State since they had that horrible game against Michigan. It was just a massive talent gap... Ohio State and Oregon would win this game 10/10 times unfortunately. Give it a year or two with Nico and recruiting then I think you guys will actually be in a good spot.

Listen, you have a passionate fan base, but it’s no different than Ohio State’s. We were dejected after Michigan, and lots of our fans didn’t show. Tennessee fans were dejected during the 3rd quarter and every single one left early. It’s the same thing. Buckeye nation travels better than anyone, also. Dejection is a real thing tho.

Will Nico live up to the hype? I’m uncertain tbh. I mean I will say this. He showed a lot of heart in that game and maybe we will see more of that from him next year. Also, for every DJ U there’s a Jaden Daniels or Bo nix. Game slows down for different people at different times and for some like Milton or DJ it never does lol let’s be hopeful it slows down sooner rather than later for Nico though. Question for y’all: I know heupel is mostly calling the plays but do you ever think Hazley is too much like heupel as far seconding everything heupel does or wants to do? Feels like golesh was a different mind than Heupel which led to more brainstorming playcalling. Just curious only y’all’s thoughts. I do think y’all are right though. Nico has to throw more with anticipation rather than trying to be perfect or find a coverage bust of someone wide open. It is odd though that he can have someone wide open and not see them or miss them but try and thread a needle with 3 guys draped on a receiver.

The Vols are not on the same level as the Buckeyes. They were confident because the Buckeyes have not played up to there talent all year, that is why fans have been so frustrated with the coaches. Being on the road in cold weather and without running back did not help but would not have made a difference because Buckeyes playing up to there ability are just way better than the Vols this year. I mean our starters did not play in 4th quarter, think about that and our 4th string quarterback got in the game.

Player for player maybe one or two players on the Vols would start for the Buckeyes and one of them is probably the kicker.

This is the recap I've been waiting on. I'm commenting a few minutes into watching but I hope y'all discuss how predictable this offense is and the comments from Ohio state defensive players talking about how they knew everything we were gonna do bc we haven't really changed since 2021. I'm not on the fire everyone train but it is concerning bc it kinda parallels some previous coaches we've had that's been too stubborn to change. Go Vols and Merry Christmas guys!

There’s plenty of tape of Nico throwing to tight coverage. So why is he not throwing it when they’re obviously open??????? Our coaching??? Something telling him not to???? We see plenty of other QB’s let it rip when it’s tight coverage……
