I don't know how many players do this but I decided to make my backhand more harder to try to read. so To do that I first had to learn how to slice the ball back deep with pace and never drop the ball short or weak which I learnt how to do from a video of this coach in america called Salzenstein's who taught how to slice the ball all flat with pace and it always go deep up into the baseline where you will never hit weak or short slices again, so I decided to try it out so I upgraded my weak club slice to his slice that allows me to skim the ball low and deep over the net. Once I learnt how to do this special deep slice from that pro I then disguised it with a topspin finish. I found using the topspin finish allowed me to mix topspin in now with flat to make the slice drive a bit more aggressive and also at the same time confuse some people to think its a topspin drive because the slice uses a topspin finish instead of using the slice finish. And that confuses the opponent sometimes.

I have four categories....escape shot (save your life!), holding shot (what's coming at you is a good shot), forcing shot (you have an opportunity to put pressure on the opponent, but not necessarily a winning shot) and a finishing shot (you can hit the ball and win the point)...
@Karue-Sell2 жыл бұрын

Yes in the Netherlands the teachers get taught 3 categories. Attack (score), defend (keep from scoring) and building shots. On lower level tennis you could add neutral balls.
@Better_Call_Raul2 жыл бұрын
@@sergiosimbula Neutral balls occurs at *all* levels, not just lower levels. There are no different categories based on levels. The categories of shots are the same whether it be between two 7.0 players or two 3.0 players.
@sergiosimbula2 жыл бұрын
@@Better_Call_Raul it's a matter of semantics. What I mean by neutral is a ball with no purpose. So not building a point, not scoring or setting up for a winner. Nor hitting a defensive shot (including balls that you are just happy to get to). Neutral shots are shots that at the lower level are just hit without a goal in mind. You can tell me whatever but that is how it is being taught and how it's labeled at the Dutch teacher program (which is among the most respected in the world).

I really love the way you simplify tennis. I have been in tennis for many years and too often I see coaches trying to present tennis as a sort of secret science that only few wizards or gurus can understand. Tennis is not rocket-science. A good tennis coach is the one who separates the wheat from the chaff technically and tactically.
@Karue-Sell2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. That’s always my goal, to simplify the game and make people feel like they can actually level up and have fun with it. When people over complicate, over analyze it and promise “hit the ball like the pros with one drill”, that tells me a lot about who’s teaching it. Thank you for watching

This is great for most up and coming club players who don't want to be pushers but hit aggressive shots. The common mistake you see is they are trying to hit that perfect forehand all the time when a lot of times you have to semi-push and wait for easier ball to attack.

Again great insight Karue, I can't get enough of your lessons, they are invariably eye opening and easy to take up. As you are looking for ideas for future content, and since you are a right handed player, how about a lesson on the mindset of playing lefties? Most recreational players up to 4.5 are familiar with the tactical approach, and in principle they have the same weapons to hurt lefties as the ones they use against right handed players. However, from my personal experience and from the input I get from the many other local 4.5 league right handed guys I play with here in Portugal, whenever we play a leftie we struggle to find a rhythm and to follow through consistently on the necessary patterns of play, eventually falling back to our hardwired "traditional" patterns and paying the price... Do right handed pros prepare for lefties and adjust their game accordingly? Any hints on simple ways we can shift our normal approach to our game so as to avoid falling into the common lefty traps, without it becoming ackward or unnatural in the heat of the moment? Well, just an idea, thanks again for sharing your perception and flair. Canal show de bola (de ténis😉)!

That's the kind of mistake I make. I play kind of an intuitive game also but lose to people that I shouldn't lose to sometimes because of poor decisions. Sometimes it's going for it when I'm stable, but missing it, like you said. But sometimes it's trying to be offensive when I'm off balance... I need to work on that.

Love the simplified tactics. Very true to assess the opponent on the fly and know what level of consistency v power to bring. Tennis is infinity brought into a rectangle in terms of what to do how to do it and when to do it. You can get lost over thinking and overplaying and also with underthinking and underplaying. I guess balance is the key. Did you ever use your A game on a guy and was thrashing him and then got lax and took your foot off the pedal and his game came up and you were stuck in a lower gear and got beat. Lol then you think was he just playing possum and waiting for me to let down?? On purpose?? Lol

Gotta say it’s amazing how you talked about the greatness of Brooksby and here he is #2 seed in San Diego. The #3 seed? Marcos Giron. Not much between them in ATP ranking either. I think you would easily beat Nic from Intuitive Tennis. Did Roger get some disappointing news regarding his mobility? I think so. Maybe you’ll put some of your tweeners on YT. It looked like you not only hit them well, but used them at strategic moments to sap opponents. That’s how Fed played. Just when the opponent thought it couldn’t get any worse, it did.

I got a Bye first round and lost my quarterfinal 7-5, 3-6, 6-10 to someone who doesn’t hit ground strokes/serves with much pace. Not necessarily a pusher, just someone who gets a lot back and forces you to make the errors. I constantly kept over hitting thinking attack attack attack and play aggressively was the plan, but clearly I lost….. any tips or previous videos that help generate/create your own pace to winning matches like these?? This would prob be my 3rd or 4th match where I’ve lost, not my opponent winning Any help would be greatly appreciated! ✊🏼

I think my decision making is a bit more complex but not so much. İt takes into account the score, the opponent, his position and direction plus my strengths, position and direction. I try to make the shot that has the largest reward/risk based on all these conditions. Also, many times thing don't go as planned, the ball bounces weird, or a miscalculated approach, which makes me pick a safe plan b: generally a deep slice. I think my attack is based usually on depth more than direction. If I get an easy ball I use the slack to place a deep heavy ball. In stressfully situations, a simpler approach definitely helps, since your brain probably stops working. Thanks 👍

Thanks, good stuff again. 👍 Question (maybe new video): How should one hold the racket initially (for FH or for BH) and how to change the grip fast enough? I strugle with a grip change in points. I used to hold my racket initially for a backhand (continental) but then typically I would miss more on forhand side and recently I tried to hold it for a FH (semi-western) and I am better with FH shots but tend to be late in grip change and thus miss more on BH side (slice in particular). Any advise?

Maybe learn the "ready position" and use the off hand to adjust your grip? Continental to SW is a pretty small grip change, as is vice versa.

Hi Karue, hope youre doing really well... Ive got a question regarding tennis travel coaches. Ive got an offer to travel and "coach" one female player currently ranked around 1000th on WTA. She is freshly sponsored by some businessman from US and wants to move up the rankings. Came to me with an offer to travel together for couple months from the start of the next year and then we would see how everything develops. First of all, I dont really feel competent at all working as some sort of travel coach on the professional level. As a head coach of really small tennis club in Europe, my biggest achievements are getting three kids to the top30-50 juniors in national rankings, I dont have a degree in sports science, sports management etc, I used to be pro tennis bettor for more than 10 years and I used to beat much much better tennis players by implementing good gameplans, thats my only qualification lol Based on your experiences, knowledge of circuit and based on information I gave you, could you give some advise? Should I take it, should I pass? Anything! Thanks a lot!
@Karue-Sell2 жыл бұрын
Take it, it will be a great experience. Don’t think for a second you are not qualified for it. Coaching on tour is not as difficult as it sounds. You will continue to do a lot of the same things you would do with junior players. Most of it is finding ways to keep the players motivated and confident on tour, it is a lot more psychological work than on court work hahah and go in trying to add to her game, not change it. See where she can be more effective and go from there. High quality >> hours and hours on court with no purpose

Maybe your best lesson ever, Karue. I think we all need a breath of fresh air after looking at too many videos where we get inundated by this $#i+storm of information from all these tennis channels! I mean, I guess the knock is, "What if you don't HAVE tennis intuition?". I think that stems from this idea that there is some ironclad, irrefutable Holy Tennis Strategy out there that all the players smarter than us follow. There isn't. In any given situation, some players will do this, some players will do that, and both can be successful. That's what makes horse racing, right? You need to come up with your own tennis strategy, based on what YOU do well, how YOU react under pressure, what occurs to YOU to do in any number of oncourt scenarios - and finally, did it work out well, were you successful? Then you slowly piece together a quiltwork of ideas of what to do when, and this itself probably changes with time and experience. We DO all get older, don't ya know. Maybe we can't run down this ball or that, maybe we can't blast people off the court like we used to. Our opponents keep getting younger all the time, ha ha! Anway, my turn on the soapbox is over. Great lesson, I - for one - have taken it to heart. Thank you!
