@danielhkhk7283 hahaaha, this is ridiculous..I watched women's tennis 20 years ago and I can compare nowadays level with level 20y ago..I have the opposite opinion, I think that Swiatek could not be in top 100 in wta tour from 2002 or 2003 for example..even in top 100..today she leads the wta run..

probably not- though I do believe she would have won 6 or so more majors, which would give her 15 overall- she wasn't able to play 10 after the stabbing.

Hardly. She couldn't even take a set off of Graf in the 1992 Wimbledon final, her only final appearance her entire career. Seles didn't love grass and grass didn't love Seles. And then she took a 2 year break instead of returning in 3 months like she could have. H2H against Graf will always be 10-5 Graf, 6-4 in Slams adv Graf.

@@broncoguy4862 Steffi lost 1st round of Wimbledon 1994- that's the year I think Monica had a chance. She beat Martina on grass and got to a final- she was improving on the surface every year.

she only got to one final at Wimbledon- losing to Graf... she missed the tournament twice, 93 & 94, after she was stabbed by that crazed Graf fan... the year Conchita won- 1994, would have probably been Monica's best shot at it.

yes- 2 of her wins here was while she was technically stateless- defecting in 75- she lost her Czech citizenship and did acquire any until 1981. She had a 'green card' from the US allowing her to live and work in the US 75-81

She was totally cut off from any communications with any member of her family. When she First won Wimbledon and in succeeding major tournaments, Czechoslovakia, which is a well known tennis country, published only the name of the runner ups of the tournament. Czechoslovakia did to her until the end of the Communist regime.

@@salverde100 they let her mom out for Wimbledon 79 and her grandmother visited her in Texas that year. The whole family was allowed to emigrate in 1980, but multiple problems arose/they returned home- her father couldn't adjust to being dependent on his daughter and her sexuality became an issue- she was with Rita Mae at the time. Her parents were allowed to visit her when she lived in Virginia Beach- 83-84 (where I live- my dad managed the Safeway down on Laskin Road they shopped at), her parents were at the 1984 French final. I remember her writing about the Czech news- how they would say 'the 4 Wimbledon semifinalists are...' then only name 3 people and how people learned to read between the lines.

Why people's personal views are an issue in sport is regretful to say the least. If they can play well, they should be recognised for their ability alone. Everything else should be left off the playing field imho.
