12:14 is one of the most touching things I have ever seen. Given who he is...the expression on his face...to let the boys run thier fingers through his hair. The way he caries him self. The way he brings honor to those around him. He never has a bad thing to say about anyone. And a word on his greatness. At 38 years old (+ or - a few weeks) he beat the number 2 player in the world and then went 6 sets with number 1 having match points against him. Spotting them both 5 or 6 years. Lets see how they are playing 5 or 6 years from now. Forget how many slams they end up having. Like me, there are 10's of millions of people who think Roger Federer is THE greatest athlete of all time and a supreme human being.

I’m a Huge Novak fan but as a former competitive junior/college player I have enough respect for Roger to point out that he’s going to be like Tom Brady playing into his 40’s. He might even get to the point where he only plays just enough to qualify for slams. Roger is capable of catching lightning in a bottle over a 2 week period and winning a slam in his 40’s I believe. He’s the only player capable of missing 6 months and immediately winning a slam. Novak took a full season to get back to winning slams after injury. I’m a fan of Novak mostly because his style of play was similar to mine only WAY better. Although, If you played tennis seriously everybody wanted to play like Fed at some point, only it was a bad idea to try it because no one could pull it off. His game transcends pure athletics and there’s an undeniable element of artistic genius to it like he’s Da Vinci with a tennis racquet. That’s why he’s the Goat for me regardless of who ends up with more slams.

I want to say only that the comments below are so insightful, touching and wonderful, all about a man who embodies these characteristics. Quick note about 2018 AO. I was fortunate enough to see the final, in which he defeated Cilic. Was still in Laver Stadium, in the corridor, drinking in what I had just experienced. There was an overhead announcement that Federer will meet with his fans in another court in the arena complex. I could barely hear where it was located but I ran there as fast as I could and made it. He made a statement and took some questions but by far the dominant theme was how much he appreciated and, I think it can honestly be said, loves his fans, not (or at most only partly) because they love him, but because he truly loves them. A beautiful, beautiful moment in my life. How often can you say that about anyone you don’t know personally? Almost never. Or never, except for this one very special human being.
