This is one of my favorite tournaments that Nadal won. Everyone was writing him off after his injury in 2012, but this match showed that he was back. He then went on to win Madrid, Rome, RG, Montreal, Cincinnati, and the US Open.

Man, when Del Potro was on form in 2013 he really was great. Played 2 excellent Masters 1000 finals against Nadal and Djokovic and that Wimbledon semi final against Novak was just amazing. Such a shame what happened with all those injuries starting in 2014.

Cincinnati and Canada are held back-to-back, no breaks in between. As soon as Nadal won Cinci, he only got a few days rest before playing in Montreal. Then it's just a week's break before US Open. What a tough schedule, fatigue surely sets in very fast.

This was such a fantastic match! DelPo was in terrific form, and Rafa was just a maestro in 2013. Matches like this (as well as Nadal’s 2013 season where he won IW, Cincinatti, Canada, US Open, etc) shows that anyone who says Nadal is “a clay court specialist”...is lying through their teeth. He’s an amazing hard court player but almost statistically unbeatable on clay . He has an 19-8 record I believe against djokovic on clay and a losing record 7-20 on hard . Against fed it’s 14-2 on clay and 8-11 on hard . A lot of it is matchups he can give Federer a hard time on any surface because of how they’re games matchup. He also has more us opens than djokovic which is incredible even though he hasn’t been as consistent there throughout his career as djokovic .

Federer and Nadal had their comebacks way earlier in the year and had more time to win more tournaments. If you count a whole calendar year(Wimbledon 2018 - Wimbledon 2019) for Djokovic, the stats would be: 4 grand slams, 3 masters WTF finalist 12,000 points

@@viccelito Yes, but the problem here is that "clay-courter" is used as a pejorative, while "hard courter" isn't even really a thing. But someone like Agassi won the vast majority of his tournaments on hard court, but because he won one Wimbledon and one RG people don't consider him a specialist. Whereas Nadal has won 2 Wimbledons, 5 hard court slams, 10 masters on hard court and an Olympic gold medal. While also being better on clay courts than anyone on any single surface in tennis history. Imagine if Agassi had 2-3 RG, 2 Wimbledon, and 20+ hard court slams, plus 5-6 masters on clay and 40-50 masters on hard court. That's essentially what Nadal is.

Oh gimme a break. Since DelPo was so “tired”....should Nadal have postponed the Final for 1 or 2 days??? Folks will say anything to not give Rafa credit for a win lol
