People got it all wrong. He started playing Tennis at 13, which is already late for most elite guys. He set a goal and said: in 10 years I'll be number 1, the BEST in the world. He did it at 23. He actually did it. That was his goal, nothing else. He worked HARD to overcome his late entry on the sport and a rather weak physique. He DID work hard and that's why he got injured; his knee and back simply broke and he couldn't keep up with elite, NUMBER ONE level. But his dedication and talent were IMMENSE. For a short, rather weak guy to humilliate guys with freaking gifted genetics and hardworkers, it requieres not only insane talent, but DEDICATION, hard work.

Rios: The most frustrating and talented player I ever saw. The skill level was ridiculous, I would say Rios and Nalbandian maybe in top 3 best players never to win a slam. I remember Federer and Safin used to say they enjoyed watching Rios. He was like all skill but did not want to put in the hard work...anyways he still had a great career and he is rich....but yes if he put the amount of hard work to go with his talent he definitely could have won over 10 slams. IMO so much enjoyable to watch over Novak who to me plays like a brick wall.

Marcelo Rios invented the jumping two-handed backhand. He has has been publicly cited as an inspiration to their own careers by Roger Federer, Marat Safin, Maria Sharapova, Alex Corretja, Guillermo Coria, Gaston Gaudio, among others. Rios Injured his back in 1999, at age 24, and could never recover. Roger Federer: "I was a big admirer of Marcelo Rios. I thought he was one of the best players with the best talent around. He was one of my favorites. I was fortunate to play him a few times and practice with him a few times. I have good memories of Marcelo." Moya: "He´s the most talented player that I have ever seen." Safin: "Rios had the talent to win 10 majors." Mike Agassi: "in some ways he was better than my son, Andre." Richard Williams: “Marcelo Rios, in my opinion, is one of the greatest guys to play tennis. And I don’t think a lot of people liked him because he could beat up on them so easy. He’s a lot of people’s favorites. The guy was unreal. He had what you call God-given talent. The talent that he had you couldn’t teach that at all. He just had what it takes, man. He’s a rough guy. A tough guy. And he was strong. And he didn’t mind beating the hell out of you. That’s what made him so good.
