WOW 8 minutes of doubles highlights Tennis TV I love you!
@nathanjen31703 жыл бұрын
Doubles hardly gets any TV coverage and it's near-impossible to find good highlights of it on KZbin. It's not an exaggeration to say that regular highlight videos like this could singlehandedly boost interest in pro doubles by a large margin

If the top guys played, maybe. There just isn't much intrigue to watch third rate guys go at each other.
@svenjakopcevic65443 жыл бұрын
@@fundhund62 whole point of the doubles is that the players who struggle against the elite can still compete in the big tournaments. Mektic was talking about that in a podcast and he said that he was gonna quit tennis when he realised he cant compete with the best in solos, so he tried doubles and look at him now.
@fundhund623 жыл бұрын
@@svenjakopcevic6544 That wouldn't be the case if the top guys played, though.
@Funkytrip733 жыл бұрын
@@fundhund62 Those third rate guys can play doubles better than the top guys though. Whole different ballgame. They should just market it better imo. More fixed teams, more legendary duos like the Brian brothers, maybe other stuff to make it more spectacular.

Sadly, watching second string players isn't particularly interesting. It's a shame the top guys concentrate solely on singles these days. But that's one of the changes exploding price funds brought with them. Interest is where the money is.

The only problem with Dan Evans as a doubles player is that his serve is not quite strong enough to win his partner easy volleys for cheap points which is necessary for winning matches. This was key in this match.
@sdstewart873 жыл бұрын
@@thomashargreave5860 his serve is good. Just not as fast as the others. Commentators always say how he has one of the best service motions. Might have to change that though to find extra power

What a shame that there are so few comments on the men's doubles final.This time tomorrow there will be hundreds of comments on the Sinner match as all his new fanboys watch him, but very few will have watched this final.The reason is of course that they're fanboys - be it of Fed/Nadal/Djokovic etc - rather than proper tennis fans. I've read so many comments over the last few days along the lines of "I was going to stop watching tennis when the big three stopped playing but now I've got Sinner to follow", these people, and there are loads of them, are fanboys and glory chasers, they're not real tennis fans.

@glock223573 жыл бұрын
@@notsohandytim5090 I know, but the reality of the situation is clear. The visual of no fans in the stands is terrible, and is killing the game. No sponsors will want anything to do with it in the near future. The ATP and WTA need to only play tournaments where there's no COVID restrictions, and fans can be in the stands cheering and enjoying the tennis. There's plenty of places with no restrictions that can host tournaments. Tell the rest of the venues to fuck-off until they're ready to let the fans in. The ATP could have moved this tournament out of Miami, as most of the rest of Florida has no restrictions, and fans could have packed the stands. Federer, Nadal, Djokavic and Murray aren't playing tournaments right now, because they want to be in front of fans. And it's possible they realize how horrible the current visual is, and they don't want to be part of it.
