Doing a reaction for songs from 1982. Original, Live and Cover. Physical was No. 1 on the Billboard Songs of the year. I chose to react to this cover because it was different to the original and uses some different instruments and moods. Music - I actually like the Bossa Nova sound on this track. While stripping down the original it works very well and how it sits in the verses are amazing. Vocals - I will say that Marcela's vocals are actually better than Olivia's for the simple fact that there is more body to her voice. Olivia uses a higher register in her version which seems to loose something in the delivery. I think Marcela's has captured what I think was lost. Delivery - It had a very sensual feel to it which is really what the original song was designed to do but was turned into more of a parody/ novelty hit by Olivia, I think just based on the year it was released and the perceived sexual innuendo. Physical deserved to get sexual and there is a bit more sex appeal in this version. Comparison - Olivia's original comes at you with a full forced 80's sound where as this strips it back to the basics and slows it down. In my opinion this version is far more superior in the way the song was meant to be delivered and even vocally it comes across better. Covers are meant to improve a song or give it a different feel. This has done that very well. Positive - The verses are amazing and delivered perfectly. Improvement - There is something that needs to happen in the chorus, not sure what that is but possibly slowing it down to make it more sensual might work. Rating: 8.5/ 10 (The score is based on how well the cover was done not necessarily on how I view the song.)
