I love how you dissected this performance. Jackie’s voice was a Instrument.

Elvis helped the careers of both James Brown and Jackie Wilson. You need to see the interview about Elvis from Jackie's son Billy talking about how wonderful Elvis was to him and his family. Jackie was wonderful and gone to soon.

Elvis may have helped white audiences become aware of Jackie and James Brown, but black audiences at the time could have cared less whether Elvis liked Jackie or JB or not. I'm 72 years old, and I well remember how my sisters (as well as my mother), who were 10 years older than I, spoke about Elvis, and it wasn't complementary. Today this stuff is candy coated because, frankly, Elvis was a terrific and giving person. But black people at the time felt that Elvis stole his moves, his style, and the music from black people. Just sayin'.

Love this song and artist. Before autotune. Probably learned to dance watching the Nicolas Brothers. ( Check Cab Caloway and the Nicholas Brothers.) He's too overlooked. Thank you. The Sullivan Show probably gave him a certain time limit.

Yes now I’m thinking back, the time of performances was limited, I feel foolish now lol 😅

Yes I get that feeling too, very underrated.

Listen to Jackie do the live version of "To Be Loved" from this same show/performance. You really get a better idea of what Jackie could do with a ballad.

They didn't call him "Mr. Excitement" for nothing!!!
@TenorReacts Жыл бұрын
No indeed, he certainly lived up to that title and more.

@@TenorReacts My comment was meant as a compliment. Jackie Wilson was called "Mr. Excitement" for anything!!!
