how "lighter" is this set up vs a turtledog stand? thanks for sharing

Well... for both types you can use similar spars, just different lengths. For the tensahedron you need four spars of between 2.4 and 3 metres long, that's a total of between 10 and 12 metres. For a turtledog you need 6 spars of 1.8 to 2.2 metres and a ridgepole of between 3 and 5 metres, that a total of between 14 and 18 metres. So, to answer your question, a tensahedron can be between 15 and 45 percent lighter than a turtledog.

Hi Paul, I'm trying to build one of these myself, how long does the rope need to be that connects the poles lying across the grass please?

mark - I made mine adjustable, with a tiedown cam strap, so that I could adjust the sit height. Those 10 foot poles are pretty long, so the width was wide, over 6 foot. Paul Tomlin, thank you, I have made one with conduit steel, but it collasped and I'm not sure why.. I have a DD frontline hammock and am not sure if this is suitable for the stand as it has no ridgeline as such, what do you think?

mark hunt - This sort of stand will work will all gathered end hammocks. The ridgeline will stop excessive movement when you enter and exit the hammock. Without more detail on how it collapsed, I'm not as useful as I could be. You need to tether the foot end and make sure you sit in it to the head side of the rope on the floor, otherwise it will close up on you like a clam! I will dig out my old DD hammock, and show you that it will work with little hammocks too.

Francisco - I joined them with 4 door hinges, but hard joints like that are not ideal. Far better to use a flexible connection, drill holes in the ends of the poles and join then with a length of cord. This allows the joint to move, to find a stable position, that puts much less strain.on the joint.

Jeff Myers - those are 10' 2x2"s, but folk have found that 8' is enough for an 11' hammock.
