In a tense exchange with the Russian ambassador, Ukraine's representative to the United Nations has told the security council that Russian president Vladimir Putin has 'declared war on Ukraine'.

Russia’s representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, has justified Russia’s military operations under article 51 of the UN charter, which allows for 'self-defence'.
The council met as Ukrainian officials confirmed missile strikes on a number of Ukrainian cities, including the capital Kyiv. Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, has introduced martial law while urging to people to remain calm.
He added that he has spoken with US president Joe Biden, and told Ukrainians to stay home and to stay calm: 'The army works. I will be with you all the time. Stay strong. We will win because we are Ukraine. Glory to Ukraine.'

@@ivanborsuk1110 really dude? You're saying Ukraine not strictly following through the proper protocols of "declaring war" completely negates all the fighting and atrocity that's already happened and continues to happen? So if I break into your house and start a fire, would it actually be on fire if no one files an official report on it? Or I guess if a country starts sending nukes directly to your coordinates, would you say there's actually no nuclear war so long as your country doesn't acknowledge it? Putin himself declared war, but you say it's all peaceful in Ukraine because they didn't respond to the declaration the "right" way? Come on now.

@@cameronchandler7606 Nothing has been democratic about Ukraine since they illegally ousted a democratically-elected president in 2014. It's funny how people in the West are quick to condemn the Capitol-rioting Trumpists as "domestic terrorists" and carry out a whole impeachment scandal, but when the same thing happens on the Maidan (only worse because a president is literally forced to flee the country) the rioters are suddenly angels bearing the rays of democracy and freedom? Like stop being so hypocritical and make up your mind.

@ShadowHunter22 you may have voted for somebody else or didn't vote at all. But compared to a citizen in a country without democratic election, probabilistically speaking, you are more likely to be responsible for your leader's action. For example, if a bomb is dropped and 1000 random citizens got killed in each of the two countries, in the one with democratic election the number of completely innocent people would on average be smaller. You can't enjoy the right given by democracy without bearing its associated responsibilities.

There is no diplomacy in Russian foreign policy. All this time in Putin's reign they have just tried to soften Europe, hire people to lobby their ideas of gas pipes and other energy sources and intimitate neighbours. Like Sauli Niinistö, president of Finland, said: any of these intimitation s about NATO-membership are not new. They have been heard already years earlier. Only the naive fools thought Putin would just soften away. He still thinks its possible to get old great Russia back

You want to know what bombing looks like ? How about 1999 when 15+ NATO members bombed Serbia without the approval of the United Nations and the Security Council for 78 days ! And then in 2008 they additionally drove nails into the coffin of the International Law, when they recognized the secession of the region of Kosovo, which is an integral part of Serbia. Now they can only eat what they sowed. Now they can only eat what they sowed.

Ukraine's government was actually formed by a coup in 2013 backed by the US and EU that overthrew a Russian friendly government, so hes not totally wrong, just exaggerating. What Russia is doing now is basically a military junta ironically, if not a full annexation of Ukraine. Nothing in Ukraine has ever had anything to do with the will of the working people, just world superpowers.

No... There was an election in *2014* , overseen by independent bodies who declared it the safest Ukrainian election so far, in which the people chose to reject a Russian stooge (Poroshenko) in favour of a government that was not heavily reliant on Russia. Putin responded by annexing Crimea. Now he's terrified that they're seeking to further themselves from Russian control and he's putting a stop to it. He hasn't provided a single scrap of evidence to support his claims of "nazification" or genocide... Because there is no proof, because it's an excuse. His invasion is because Ukraine dares to want to make it's own decisions as a sovereign nation. Zelensky kinda showed he wasn't a western stooge when he refused to be blackmailed by Trump (on *that* call, where he was asked to dig up dirt on the Bidens in exchange for military aid).
