As a former ship model builder I appreciate the tender loving care going into construction of the 3-member box frame, and made of decorative hardwood. The Wikipedia definition of a tensegrity structure above is fine as far as it goes, but misses out the crucially important factor - they use the stability of the triangle rather than the instability of the rectangle. This structure in purist terms is a bit of a fudge. It goes without saying that there would have been simpler ways of building it, but - hey having all that beautiful shop machinery you may as well put it to use. I like the way you fix the ends of the wires with a peg in the hole. That had occurred to me as a possible solution, but I've not tried it yet. The end result would certainly look appropriate in a ship modeller's shop.

It's a very nice object. The tensegrity word does not apply for this creation though... It's more of a pulled structure.

@@jakee8704 Yes not tensegrity and a poor design. The phone rest ist to large and I would cut the edges into an angle or round them.

@@JPurontong No, incorrect. The wooden elements should only get pressure and the strings should uphold the construction by tension. In this design the wooden construction gets bending forces, thus no tensegrity. Very nice stand however, looks good.

This isn't tensegrity, this is just tension. There needs to be a compression component countering the tension component to make something a tensegrity structure.

Hallo Stephan, da sehe ich ja eine geniale Idee an deiner Festool Tischsäge :-) Du hast den Schiebeschliten am Queranschlag befestigt. Da wäre ich nie drauf gekommen. Ich habe nämlich eine Eigenbau-Tischkreissäge aus 30er Aluprofilen und einer recht dünnen Oberplatte, in die ich keine Nut einlassen kann. Ich könnte zwar entlang der Außenschienen (L + R) des Gesamtrahmens einen Schiebeschlitten laufen lassen, dann müsste ich aber jedesmal den Parallelanschlag UND den Queranschlag umständlich demontieren. Ja sowas aber auch. Vielen Dank für den Tip :-) Und nen Ständer für Handy, bzw. Tablet brauch ich eh. Mein neues Huawei Tablet liegt nur rum
