It is not necessary , but you may convert values to N then solve it and at last divide it by 1000 to convert into KN so that you may get a small answer which might be easy to read.

Gauge is your distance between two consecutive bolt holes which is measured perpendicular to the applied load and pitch is same but measured parallel to the applied load. Hope it helps✨💗
