What’s the benefits of roller setting? Like what’s the purpose if after the hair will still be flatironed and curled

its the heat free alternative compared to the blow drying process (no harsh brushing/pulling, no excessive heat, etc) thats the roller set's only purpose

Back in the 90s my aunties used to leave their roller set curl pattern as a style. Today, that curl pattern looks dated so no one wants to leave it that way. Seems like stylists, instead of abandoning the old technique altogether, have repurposed it for easy or low heat stretching before flat ironing.
