I was just there two weeks ago and I absolutely fell in love with it . From its people , to food , and everything. I stayed at an Airbnb in a local area called Levittown which I loved getting breakfast every day a cremo latte and walking around that area. Then I went into San Juan and learn about its history etc . I got to practice my Spanish with the locals . I always wanted to go because my grandpa was mixed with pr . Black/white/Puerto Rican.

With all the resources it has I don't think Puerto Rico will become Haiti with independence they will be allowed to Trade with other countries allowing economic growth military and economic alliances with the US PR can lease the military bases there to the US, they'll have the option to trade with other good economical countries, therefore becoming the richest country in the Caribbean it's in the name after all Rich Port, only country they can trade with is the United States, if Puerto Rico were to become Haiti that means that there wouldn't be no resources with no resources a good economical power like the USA wouldn't invest in it.

@@starseeker5231 Puerto Rico has the potential of becoming the Singapore of the Carribean. Indepence is the only Destiny Puerto Rico has but unfortunately the people don't realize it and have been sunken dowm into the system of welfare. P.R being independent will indeed face economic hardships but those hardships will be resolved over time. P.R is surrounded by great Economic trader Like D.R, Trinidad and South America. Not necessary. Puerto Rico is a leftover from the Spanish American war where Puerto Rico, Cuba, and The Philippines were all colonies by the United States. I say that if the people support it, then Independence be granted to PR before it declares its own independence and US relations deteriorate.

@@caragraham6154 Is it, though? Let's game this out a bit. Suppose that you're a person of faith, and you believe in a divine creator (as I suspect you are, and do). If that divine creator is omnipotent and infallible (e.g. all-powerful and all-knowing), then it stands to reason that such a divine creator, by necessity, *can never be wrong.* If such is true, then it would further stand to reason that any and all prayers contrary to the "divine plan" would be meaningless: If the creator's plan will not change, because the creator cannot be wrong, then the prayer accomplishes nothing. Now, suppose instead that prayer *can* help in some way; namely, that prayer would, in some way, persuade this divine creator to *change their plan* for all of creation. If the creator thinks it better to change their plan, then they necessarily *cannot be all knowing* (as they surely would have known that there was, in fact, a better plan to begin with). If such a creator is *not* all knowing, then such a creator *cannot be all powerful, either,* and thus is not a divine creator. In this instance also, prayer accomplishes nothing. Now let's be real: Nobody is telling you to sell your house, your car and your dog and give all the proceeds to the people of PR. But to say "there is no other way I can help them" is a lie. Even if it's small things - donating a few cents, or donating canned food, or spare medical supplies, whatever - that all helps. Even if it's spreading the word about PR's situation and trying to get *other* people to be charitable and talking about PR statehood helps. But to sit there and suggest that prayer alone is something other than a hollow gesture that's only value is to signal virtue is insulting.

Personal opinon: Puerto Rico is better of as a state than any other option. Right now the biggest problems are economic. If it was a state much of that could be solved. Puerto Rico has a stronger economy than many rural Republican states. And they just get subsidized by the rich states. So realistically! If they were a state the people would get their representation, have free movement all across the USA to work and live, have better connections internationally for trade, and have a huge easy to get tourism base for their economy (being Americans from the continental US) since they dont need a visa or passports to visit between states. Overall wishing the best for them and hope their problems are resolved soon.

Statehood is the only way to get representation in Congress which is what PR needs to be able to improve our economy, restructure our debt, be treated with respect, and finally end the abuse!! Forget Independence ... look at the independent countries around the Caribbean, and rest of the world, and you'll see how bad they're doing, to the point where their citizens are risking their lives to try to get into America or one of its territories. An example of this is our Dominican neighbors risking their lives on homemade boats to try to get into Puerto Rico for a better life. If these people had the chance to become a state, guess what the outcome of a plebiscite would be, if it were to be taken?? Besides no country on this planet is totally independent from the main world powers. Facts!!! PS. Having the illogical Jones act imposed on the island doesn't help either, costing it billions of $$ since 1917 under President Woodrow Wilson for reasons that only pertain to that time... World War I has been over, time to end the abuse!!

@@dugnice Yes, also because the PNP is notoriously corrupt. The island needs to fix its economical problems and concentrate on ACTUAL problems the island has like fixing the potholes, dealing with abandoned schools, the selling of PR land to wealthy investors from USA, etc. Also the US has societal problems that we don’t need to deal with because it doesn’t relate to us entirely. At this point, if I want PR to concentrate on its future then independence. If that happens, the process for it will start with the help of the US to organize things and do agreements with before becoming our own country. It may depend on how long until independence, it could be couple of years or a decade, who knows. The main problem to tackle is the economy and the problems around the island.

Lots of people forget that Puerto Rico was obtained as a war possession taken from Spain during the Spanish American war...people forget that treaties among countries including the United states made them stop owning Colonies...people forget that because there are agreements among countries you cannot just change the rules to your liking and sell this island or exchange it or it would have to be returned to the original owner SPAIN since Puerto Ricans were Spanish citizens.

WE WANT INDEPENDENCE, however, the USA can't just drop us like a bad habit. USA has destroyed PR infastructures, resources and spirit. WE want a plan, program or agenda in our peoples interest to help rebuild our PR so that our economy can prosper, stand on it's own and benefit it's own people. This takes time. AND OUR PEOPLE will need to be UNITED more than ever, we need to heal and take courage and each other by the hand. We need more PRican doctors, lawyers, judges, writers, journalists, engineers, scientists, agriculturists, teachers, farmers, entrepreneurs etc. We have the potential, we have intelligence and strength. WE PUERTO RICANS NEED TO RETURN TO THE ISLAND AND START THE PROCESS . GOD BLESS PR, VIVA PRLIBRE, SI SE PUEDE

As an American born Boriqua I've always believed that Puerto Rico can never be independent . The island needs to consider Statehood as opposed to staying a commonwealth. From what I've observed the island has never had a good governor who's put the island's interest above themselves. They've lined their pockets with money meant for Puerto Rico's economy.

The PNP and PPD should be abolished because they constantly boycott each other during elections.
