You had a mentally ill ‘husband’, possibly violent who knows, who nobody even looked at while you were arresting her for more than a minute in duration. What if he was very violent and had a knife or a gun. He was right behind you guys, meet feet away the entire time, mentally ill and you were arresting his partner. One of you should be covering each other’s backs especially under circumstances like this. Situational awareness for your safety please.

What "assistance", other than arrest and jail, was provided to this young woman, who was obviously psychotic and in need of psychiatric hospitalization and treatment. The state of California, spearheaded in 1968 by then Governor Ronald Reagan, closed most of state mental hospitals, and did not plan for or build crucial community treatment centers.
