杨伟丹 is wrong for the role of 六娘; it requires a younger performer that can add credence to the image of a young lady falling in love, and forced into another marriage. Also it requires a 'thinner' voice (not the 'thicken' voice of a older person), a lighter gait that can fall and rise and 'flow'/twirl gently, and a lithe body to wear the dress of a young lady (not the robe of a married woman). And of course it is disconcerting to see & hear the differences between her with the cousin (played by an obviously young xiaosheng). This is not to say she is doing a bad job; but there is so much she can do; she is on the wrong side of age for this casting. The rascal Yeo is obviously still learning the ropes. And many performers have untidy 'watersleeves' technique - it is so painful to watch. I wish that more emphasis should be paid to this unique feature of Chinese opera. I enjoyed the arias of course; this is a gem of Teochew opera, and cannot be 'done to death' - a new production always is interesting. I was looking forward but must admit to being disappointed. TTHANKs for uploading.
