@@TeraCMusic It is, and it would be nice, (the arena and fight is a sight) but not necessary. Also, this is just my personal opinion, but I wouldn't bother with Father Gascoin's theme, even though you've prommised it. It's kind of a meme/bate track for you tube channels who do reaction music, since it's very basic ost. (But its bloodborn, so it's still a bop, and I can imagine you easily making unique commentary). Now after dissing other's tastes I shall disrespectfully insert my own request for you to listen to ''Dark Beast Parl'''s theme before you sign bloodborn off. The theme is very haunting, if not a bit basic in the beginning. But the end makes up for it and is very memorable. OR, Bloodborn's main theme if you haven't already done so, if you haven't listened to it, than pls disregard both Gascoin and Parl, it is by far the most important theme of the game, it encapsulates the whole feel of the setting. It even has a named orchestral live performance.

You should know that Lady Maria's Theme is designed to be played in an endless loop at the end so the theme has no resolution. It is always switching between major and minor but never ends on one tone. She is indeed trapped in an eternal nightmare.
@srarts123Ай бұрын
"A corpse... should be left well alone. Oh, I know very well. How the secrets beckon so sweetly. Only an honest death will cure you now. Liberate you, from your wild curiosity." Is such an interesting starting light and foreshadowing for what she did. She appears to be a corpse when you first see her but this is also what she and the first hunters did. They found Kos's body washed up on the shore and began experimenting on it, plunging the world into madness over time in the search for knowledge and creating the hunter's nightmare and hunter's dream. One note is the gherman's doll is modeled after maria showing that he loved her before his body effectively got taken over by the parasite that is the moon presence
@proudlarry82252 ай бұрын
6:16 I believe they're speaking latin and are basically calling out that they are cursed and sick, with blood and beasts, and also talk about the water which is an important theme in Bloodborne as well, but it's less of a lamentation and more of a dark revelry. This is one of the only ambient tracks in the entire game that plays within an area rather than a specific battle. It's meant to be something your character might actually be hearing while wandering the abandoned streets of Yahar'Gul as the surviving townsfolk have locked themselves in the square and are calling something horrible. After which the area is completely silent.
@admiralepic13572 ай бұрын
On this, the soundtrack does actually get louder and quieter as you approach the Chapel in Yaharghul. The singing then stops once Rom is dead, as illusions are broken. Whether they stopped singing because they have gone mad, or because their prayers were answered, is left up to interpretation.

Orphan of Kos theme is so under appreciated in my opinion, I feel like it perfectly defines what Bloodborne is. The first phase signifying how the whole world is not as it seems and the other worldly beings that are beyond human comprehension, with nothing makes sense and traversing in a world that is completely unfamiliar to you. And then the second phase signifies the viciousness of the world, everything wants to kill you and is on the attack, never letting stop to take a breath, every where you go you have to fight like your life depends on it, because it does. Such an great piece
@jeffreymoespot54022 ай бұрын
Lady Maria is a lot of things. Sad, angry, disappointed and extremely determined to not let you pass for your own good. The second piece plays in the background of the area of Yahar Ghul. A part of the city that has been dragged into a nightmare by eldritch forces, and the singing is actually diegetic as the choir is attempting to call to a manmade god. Orphan of Kos is a really sad fight. It's the grieving child of a dead god who was killed for no real reason, while she was pregnant of her child. The beach this fight takes place on is empty, aside from the corpse of this poor wretch's mother. You are basically putting a scared, angry, malformed infant out of it's misery.

Idk if it's been mentioned but Hail the Nightmare is actually intradiegetic (the song is played in the universe of the game and the characters can hear it basically). So it is already surprising to hear music in a game where it is totally absent outside of boss fights, but the fact that it starts after you've been kidnapped God knows where and that you quickly realize that the source of the music is somewhere in Yahar'Gul... I was uncomfortable the first time I heard it. Then it also has cool lore implications, which adds to the creepiness

Orphan of Kos is a great piece of storytelling itself. The lore about the Orphan came like this: its mother, Kos, was found in a peaceful fishing hamlet but later was murdered by the hunters in the name of researching. So the baby was actually stillborn in reality, but its power and anger extended and fueled another reality, which is "The Hunter's Nightmare". The 1st phase of the OST surely described a calm but somehow unnerving scene of the beach of the fishing hamlet, and the 2nd phase caputures the orphan's pure anger, hatred, probably fear, and the raw, new born, undiscoverd chaotic energy, together with the orphan's incomprehensible roar and occational scream (which can not be heard in the OST lol) composed the pinnicle battle of the entire game.
@berzerk-_-fury5470Ай бұрын
One thing about Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower isn't that it's competing melodies at the start it's a duet of them. The way she acts in her fight has it so that if you dodge back you're likely to get hit. So the best way to dodger her is by going forwards towards her. As a result it ends up with you and Maria closely together dancing in circles around each other. It's a duet not only musically but also as a dance, both in style and flare but also in combat.
@TheCryptidmanАй бұрын
At risk of saying something someone's already commented, but; A fascinating thing about "Hail The Nightmare" and your keen ear in noticing the "call and response format" is that "Hail The Nightmare" plays after you've been abducted by a creature and thrown into a cell in a hidden, secret village that's been ruined through a ritual designed to bring an infant eldritch god's consciousness into baseline reality. Mergo's consciousness, to be specific. The village, Yahar'gul, was once presided over by the School of Mensis, who sought to ascend to godhood through direct communication with their gods, including quite literally traversing to their gods' realms. This "call and response" mimics first contact with the Great Ones, the gods, in which the predecessors of the school (and later their rivals, literally called The Choir), the College of Byrgenwerth, were approached by the Moon Presence after they summoned it. There's also a lore tidbit that mentions that Great Ones are "sympathetic by nature and often answer when they are called".

For Hail the nightmare you first hear it being sung in game just after you awaken from being kidnapped by someone called a bag man. The bag men are looking for subjects to be sacrificed as part of a ritual to summon a nightmare deity into the real world. In many ways the music is there to tell you that the ritual has started. The concept seems to be evocative of the epidemic of body snatching that followed the growth of the Edinburgh school of medicine's constant need for cadavers for dissection classes. In fact more than a few murders of local elderly and poor folk were attributed to body snatchers being too impatient to wait for their subjects to die before selling their bodies to the school. This sets up very well an underlying theme of otherworldly rituals and sacrifice that underpins the rest of the game. I said it in a comment before but the feeling of terror is not just palpable, it's visceral. To say that FromSoftware digs deep is an understatement. However, the fact that they deliver on their efforts so often and so well feels like a miracle in this era of cash-grab game design. They do it so often that it's clearly no accident. It might be worth checking out some of the music from their other games and if you are looking to branch out to other studios there are plenty of games with wonderful music worth listening to. Though, Bloodborne is truly an achievement all it's own. You might want to check out Marco meatball for ideas. Just to throw out some random stuff Great Grey Wolf Sif is one of the OG tracks from the first Dark Souls game. You can probably hear a lot of early ideas that were later developed much more in Bloodborne. Children of the omnissiah is an interesting one from the Warhammer 40,000 Mechanicus OST For more bloodborne I've always been partial to the song for the watchdog of the old gods. I think it's called, Terror? It might also be worth listening to the song for the cleric beast. It plays early but it's also very core to the story in it's theme.

Bit of lightweight context for you. Bloodborne: The Old Hunters DLC is a nightmare that sends you backwards in time, exploring how the world of Bloodborne came to be cursed. Lady Maria is indeed the protege of Gerhman, and when you first encounter her she's already dead, having taken her own life out of guilt. See, in order for the Healing Church to learn how to make miracles happen, a whole lot of experimentation had to take place on live patients. These experiments were not voluntary. At the heart of the nightmare is Kos, the corpse of a dead god washed up on the beach of some unnamed fishing hamlet, and it is from here that Lady Maria obtained the lab rats for the Healing Church. Those villagers who managed to escape called upon the Kos to curse those who would use the blood of the gods for their own purposes.

For context on the orphan of kos from what i can recall, so take it with a grain of salt. It is the child from a dead god, washed up on a fishing hamlet, which was used by the original hunters and the healing church for the purposes of asending to godhood. Gerhman was one of these hunters. The depravity of humanity inflicted upon the orphan led to the creation of the hunter's nightmare, a sort of hell for hunters, where they hunt eternally with a overwhelming bloodlust. The very hamlet the god washed up on fell victim to the church's experiments, and the crimes commited against it's inhabitant were nothing short of vile. The orphan itself is one of the hardest fights, his weapon is a bladed placenta. He fights with reckless abandon, being extremely aggresive and drowning you in it's harrowing screams. Defeating him puts him to rest, and lifts the nightmare aswell as Gerhman's burdens.
@admiralepic13572 ай бұрын
Little to add, as you enter the nightmare you hear a woman speaking to you. This is implied to be the voice of Kos herself, and that it is Kos' last act to create the nightmare as a curse on the hunters to go there when they die - similarly to how the moon presence ties you to the Hunter's Dream when you die.

Lore/ boss fight explanation for lady Maria and orphan of kos, so First Lady Maria. Lady Maria was somthing called a vial blood and to put it simply they are basically people of royalty part of this kindom with blood powers. Lady Maria however was sided with the opposing group to the kindom, the hunters and she made a vow to not use her blood powers again . Her relation to gehrman, she was kind of an apprentice to gehrman and gehrman had feeling for her( in a creepy way) and they either other hunters did somthing to this sea great one(god) called kos. It’s not said exactly but it’s implied that they killed by the fishing hook that orphan of kos fights with. The killed it to obtain its blood which is a whole other thing to get into but it’s just basically a miracle cure to everything. The sea god happened to be pregnant and the group of hunters that killed it were cursed to be in a place called the hunters nightmare( gehrman not included for other reasons). Then you come in and meet lady Maria who is protecting the place where the orphan of kos and the dead body of kos is along with a bunch of cursed fish people. She is protecting the place because she wants is to be kept secret so no one finds out what they did to Kos. During lady Maria’s fight, hiding her secret becomes so important to her she abandons her vow to not use her blood powers. Not sure if it was intentional but the completing melodys at the start of the track could be representing lady Maria’s internal conflict not wanting to use her blood powers and the frustration and anger heard could be her frustration at herself for using them. And the conflicting things you hear with the orphan of kos theme might be representing your actions. What your doing is not right your killing and orphan great one that other hunters caused the suffering of and it’s just angry but your also doing what needs to be done to free the people from the hunters nightmare. And also back to gehrman if you were still wondering the reason it’s creepy is because he made a deal with a great one to have a living doll of her. More to it but just to awnser some questions. Edit: if you read this thanks I hope it wasn’t to confusing

Small corrections and add-ons: - The Fishing Hamlet incident wasn't for the blood (that would come later with Ebrietas especially), but for insight; Kos was teeming with parasites so they studied her, also probably took her Umbilical Cord, and they then experimented on the people of the village, opening up their skulls to see if they had eyes inside their heads. These people were innocents and living in a symbiotic relationship with Kos, making the whole Fishing Hamlet incident litteral brutalization and violation of innocents. - Knowing this, Lady Maria regretted her actions, she threw her weapon down the well and when taken in by the nightmare, was given a research hall with patients she could never appease as punishment. Although she is punished, she seems to accept it, as the only hunter with some sense of reason, and so she decides to protect the Fishing Hamlet, not for the sake of the secret necessarily, but because the inhabitants of the Fishing Hamlet have suffered enough. "A corpse should be left well alone", she wants Kos to be left alone to rest, also hinted at by the gravestone near the lighthouse facing the shore, with a lumenflower resting on top (implying Lady Maria went there). Since she can move freely in the nightmare, also hinted at by that grave, and knowing the emplacement of the DLC (her tombstone in the Hunter's Dream), she probably is the host to that nightmare, alongside the Great One Kos (her consciousness on another plane at least). This could also imply that the Wrath of Mother Kos is based on the brutalization of the villagers more than her own, and I have a theory that since the Orphan is Gehrman's punishment (brought up in the next point), it doesn't really symbolize her LITTERAL child, but more the Fishing Hamlet as a whole, as they were all contaminated by Kos Parasites, so they could be her surrogate children technically, making the whole village "Orphan" of Kos. - Gehrman is possibly in the Hunter's Nightmare as well; while in the Hunter's Dream (his first prison), he also seems to dream IN the dream, and does a particular cry in one of his bad dreams... The same cry used by the Orphan in his introduction. His punishment is probably to awaken as the Oprhan and feel its pain directly. Like his consciousness is trapped in the body of his victim, ever to relive what it went through. It is also hinted at by the fact that when you kill the Orphan (NOT when you kill the Nightmare), Gehrman seems to sleep peacefully (as said by the Doll). It is separate from you killing the nightmare, meaning Gehrman was specifically connected to the Orphan itself. The Orphan also uses a placenta with the blade of Gehrman's weapon imbued in it. - Having said that, the Doll is probably also a form Lady Maria's punishment takes. It's possible that while the Doll sleeps, Maria is awake, and when Maria sleeps, the Doll is awake. That link becomes severed when Maria dies, hence "I feel a liberation from heavy shackles" - The Doll.

Lady maria is a character drenched in tragedy like most bloodborne characters. She is racked with guilt and regret. There is a tinge of that in the music but her track is more tense and aggressive because she is an increidbly skilled fighter using a long sword saber and a short sword that can combine into a double bladed weapon. She is very quick, very agile snd she gets more range as the fight goes on. Its extremely aggressive and you are forced to stay close and dance witb her in the game because if you stop away you will be caught in her attacks. The music follows that premise. A very close and personal dance

Orphan of Kos is the orphan entity of a Great One. Great Ones being these eldritch otherworldly beings of great power that humans found and sought to either manipulate or become themselves. Studying them people realized their blood could hold the secrets to human ascension, but it was also notable that some had healing properties when transfused into humans. And so became the Healing Church of blood transfusion. But Kos was one of the early ones both studied and brutalized. The humans most sick with the blood and guilt of their eventual ceaseless rampage would be taken away, eternally damned as a consequence of their unbecoming. And so a certain more different faction had the understanding that the old blood has consequences and taught to fear it, and instead seen another means of ascension of "insight" where they literally put eyes inside their head. Doing so they successfully produced a great one called Rom the Vacuous Spider who could hide away the Eldritch afflicted reality from the population to protect them.

Also fun fact: this is a version of Ghierman's theme, but cranked up to 11 with the dial broken off. Eluding to Maria basically being the greatest hunter to ever live. In life, she ENDED several hunts single-handedly, and in the game when you fight her, you aren't actually fighting HER, just her lingering will making her corpse move while also holding back the Nightmare that started the whole beast curse. She's a bonifide badass 100%.

Lady Maria could not handle the atrocities the hunters committed against something sacred in the name of righteousness. They [The Old Hunters] defiled a corpse that should have been left well alone, which is actually the first thing she says to you ["A corpse should be left well alone."] when you touch her 'dead' body on the chair, and is brilliant foreshadowing. Additional spoiler context: When the curse of that Great One [Lovecraftian Eldritch God] afflicted the old hunters, Lady Maria actually had thrown her weapon into a well years ago as protest to what the hunters had been doing, which unfortunately cursed the whole town where you proceed through in this DLC. The track evolves without resolution because she feels guilty and will have no respite from her sins. Gehrman was the only old hunter spared, but that is because he is under a unique limbo, and one could say he actually endured a worse fate. Gehrman's track is melancholy in a way because you are saving him while he is still trying to save you from the path of the old hunters. Which is actually also why Maria was fighting you, because she thought you already were doomed to walk down that road ["Allow me to liberate you from your wild curiosity."] and takes it as penance for herself to stop all those who would as well as help those she cursed despite how futile it is.
@TheExeption2 ай бұрын
They didn't just defile the corpse. They hunted, killed and experimented on all the villagers too. That's why she's so tormented. She found sick and mutated people and murdered them and took them apart on the order of byrgenworth

Since you opened the FromSoftware floodgates recently with your Bloodborne videos, I might request some of my favorite tracks from other FromSoftware series such as: Lichdragon Fortissax from Elden Ring or Someone is Always Moving on the Surface from Armored Core 4Answer. They're not the most popular from their respective OSTs judging from youtube metrics so maybe start with something more hotly requested, but please keep them in mind as maybe a part of a multi-track video!

Honestly people begging for DS3 OST's have no clue. Sure, Bloodborne is good, DS3 is good, but you know where it's REALLY at? The innovative and highly experimental music of DS1, spearheaded by Sakuraba (composed Gwyn, Lord of Cinder and Nameless Song, the arguably hardest hitting pieces of the game that literally make me cry) The breath of fresh air of Elden Ring brought by Shoi Miyazawa (composed some of the best pieces a la Godrick, Radahn, Dancing Lion, Promised Consort etc) Hell, what about ARMORED CORE music? Someone Is Always Moving On The Surface? Cicada? Scorcher? *Contact With You?* _Steel Haze (When Truths Meet)?!_ (HOSHINO, MY MAN, I COULD KISS YOU)
