During this fight, I had Jaheira throw Boo in Sarevok's face and the space hamster managed to kill him. It felt like the greatest conclusion possible for the old characters from BG 1/2.

Huh, interesting, because Sarevok in my playthrough literally can't be restrained. He either gets the saving throw and frees himself, gets hastened or one of his minions help him and that after casting hold person at least 4 times to actually succeed in holding him. Either i'm casting with the wrong characters (Minthara/Shadowheart) or Larian patched this strategy.

@@yakuzajoe At that point your party should be lvl 12 already which makes the fight a non-eventful one in most cases. My first ever Baldurs Gate/DND playthrough without min maxing I easily smacked him in turn 3 on tactician while making a couple mistakes (not hasting my spellcaster, getting counter spelled on a very potent debuff and not killing Sarevok before the ghost pit sanctuary on him), my partys total HP loss was around 40 iirc.

That's just RPG sequels for you. There can be a dozen or more different endings to a game but it's sequel can only choose *a single one* of them to be the canon one that continues the story. That's just one of the cons of RPGs and a pro of linear stories like TLOU. It is what it is.
@kevind3974
@kevind3974 11 ай бұрын
@@ThwipThwipBoom you want a good example of that just look at mass effect. they literly didnt know how to end the game, while for a fallow up game they didnt even try to fallow up on what actualy happen and just straight up left the galexy. while the sequal that is currently in development it seems like they took the 500+ year route aka its been so long all the endings except for the worst kinda just become the same as so much time passed
@SchulzEricT
@SchulzEricT 9 ай бұрын
@@ThwipThwipBoom I mean, it's not really Baldur's Gate though, is it? They could've just not brought him back at all, since his story was finished. What I think Larian *should've* done, if they were going to steal the Baldur's Gate name, is to center BG3 around Imoen; center the game around her journey, since she really didn't have one in BG1/2, and bring back a few characters who had room to grow, like Anomen or Mazzy. Bringing back Minsc, Jaheira, Sarevok... in story there's no reason to do that, they did that just to try to give some legitimacy to the "Baldur's Gate" title they gave to their D&D game.

I don't think they should have brought Sarevok back. He was freed from Bhaal's essence when he died. He could have chosen his own path after he was resurrected. Throne of Bhaal also took place 100 years before Bhaal returned. And everyone thought that Bhaal was permanently dead after ToB. Plus even if Sarevok remained evil, I don't know if he would have returned to Bhaal. He never really worshiped Bhaal in the first place. He didn't want to become Bhaal's champion, he wanted to become a god himself. I think Sarevok would be too ambitious to chase after the favor of Bhaal, who is barely even a god after his return. I think Sarevok would have grander plans.

I felt so bad when I didn't bring either Jaheira or Minsc (or Boo) to this encounter. I had no idea the murder trial would feature Sarevok plus I was too eager to push the story along on my first run. I did put them on my team the instant I got them in my second play-through and kept them active until Orin was defeated. But even after that, I ended up using them the most out of all companions. Didn't quite manage to kill the Elder Brain with a Boo-throw, but I did try.. :D They're just so entertaining to have around - especially Minsc is. I wish both would make their appearance earlier in the game, but I guess they're now relegated to being supporting characters. Time for a BG1 and BG2 remake with BG3 technology!

This is a really cool call back but at the same time it makes no sense for Sarevok to be there and in any way shape or form on Baal's good graces. Not only was Sarevok actively trying to do anything to be the new god of murder meaning he had full plans to betray Baal, he also lost. When he was killed in BG1 the part of him that was Baalspawn was removed from his soul (He even tells the player character this in BG:II Throne of Baal). In that game the player can choose to resurrect Sarevok and if done so he becomes a companion for the game, and then depending on how the player operates in the game it opens Sarevok's mind and he actually has a morality change. So to see him here while cool and all makes no sense to me, I would rather have seen him make a guest apperance in the temple of Baal as a temporary companion, challenging his 'father' and fighting with the player character in that one, and maybe even becoming a companion in the group which would have been a lot more interesting at least to me.

Meeting Sarevok for the first time was one of the few moments I was casually playing and had to sit the fuck up from serious interest. The atmosphere, how it goes from kinda dank little cave to an immediate shift into terror from the short time it takes to get to the Tribunal room. The bloody ghost aspects who are all crazy females and crazy passive effects on Death. Like I figured it would be more doppledangers not the fames previous MAIN antagonist holy shit. I read the aspect details and managed to aoe two on accident....holy shit not a good time. I think they should have naturally gave him the aspect buffs, because I think that is a truly peak and potentially challenging fight, while also staying true to how great of a fighter he is. The characer screams "Danger" from before you even get into the room all the way and his Frenzy roar was awesome. I know for a fact a good amount of people who met this dude took the camera and panned to him like "👀 who tf...oh shit". Tbh, he is the reason I started using Karlach because I think the Frenzy screams are badass. I wasnt ready for his Deathbringer assault and he instantly killed one of my companions, while healing and then smacking tf out of someone else after my friend died. He had me genuinely shook my first playthrough bc I was doing it all blind with no previous knowledge on how to use everything correctly. Man that fight music was awesome too. Besides Cazador and Orin who I think have the same song, this fight was top of the list for me for setting and music. I stumbled into this on accident not knowing the history of these three but instantly remembered the few times they did mention him and was like wait..."this is the mf you guys talkin about? we gotta gtf outta here NOW!!!* . Like the moment I met the Paladins waiting at the door, I was scared. How they just straight up ask for tribute and tell you if its not good enough all 3 of his mates will rend you flesh from bone. I was MORE scared of them at first because Paladins can absolutely turn a fight around with a smite and they had a shit ton of HP. I never heard his VA nor do I care to compare, I think Wylls by far got the absolutely lamest and cringiest shit to say. Anchev had me with the introduction. I think he is a great character, and they made him visually look pretty damn awesome looking at his old art. "You gaze upon Murders Progeny... child" idk that shit just went super hard to me. 😂 Me: "huh?? I am just looking to trade 😢"

For some grandaddy old age worshipper of the god of murder, he sure likes to hear his own voice. Surely he skilled into the pretentious bard class over the years. Less talking more killing. Bhaal would approve, probably already having a headache with all this exposition dump going on and Orin not being able to shut up and kill people. Well, nothing Hunger of Hadar can't fix. Thanks for the video though. Lovely to see Larian implement Minsc and Jaheira well.

Ahhhh, Sarevok liked to talk in the original game, too. His plan for murder involved taking a position of political power in the city, after all. It was really only once he was backed into a corner that he got down to business and, even then, it was the trap-ridden arena where the final boss took place that was the real threat. That and, well, the fact that he came at you with a full party of allies. ...I did not fight fair. I Skull Trapped him and his party into little bitty pieces because I was playing the Enhanced Edition, which makes that a valid tactic.

Statistic data taken from other RPGs have shown that the majority of players try to be "good" compared to "evil". so evil people cannot be slowly changed over the course of two games and many events? Minsc was brought back as pure fan service but was still true to Minsc ill give you that , Jahiera was also done really well , so you are absolutely correct there. I wouldent have to big of a problem with Vicy coming back evil , she sort of has little choice in the matter when it comes to service of her evil god , But she behaves like she hasent changed at all and that shes happily willingly a slave of her god , which just kind of feels cheap. I would have loved to see her being a more damaged , jaded Drow then the one we knew from BG1,2 Saeravok is just embarrassing , they grabbed the main villain of the 1st game and cheapened him by making him a barely important throw away boss and a giant simp to Bhaal , its a massive disservice to a pretty solid villain . I thought him turning good was something that made sense considering Abdel crushed all his dreams and he is a fragment of Abdel anyway. I just look at the whole situation there and ask myself..."Why did they have to bring him back if just for that" It made him look weak and it felt like a giant fan service to have him back just to fight him again with Jaheira and Minsc by your side. I am also well aware that these are things WoTC have written in their canon long ago , that does not make it any less crappy@@MrNoot39449

Because Baldur's Gate 3 isn't really a Baldur's Gate game, but since Larian wanted to use the Baldur's Gate name for clout, they felt obligated to have some soulless references to the original games. I keep saying, what they should've done was either make a Baldur's Gate game and grab characters with unfulfilled potential like Anomen, Mazzy, Valygar, and develop them into even better characters (center the game around Imoen, the other Bhaalspawn, so that you get to keep the Baldur's Gate continuity but without having to make any kind of canon for the PC Bhaalspawn/Gorion's Ward from BG1/2) rather than bringing back fan favorites that you're not going to do justice to. OR make a disconnected D&D/Forgotten Realms RPG.

@SchulzEricT
@SchulzEricT 9 ай бұрын
@@groovyhoovy2606 Are you trying to say that making a story that follows Imoen is non-canon? I assure you, that's not true. Are you trying to say that WotC already HAD a BG3 story that Larian followed, and that's why Minsc and Jaheira were in it and Anomen and Mazzy weren't? Again, not true. I'm not really sure what point you're trying to make, because it's nonsensical. Larian could've told a satisfying follow-up to BG; instead, they shoe-horned in some BG characters into a game that wasn't really BG at all. It may well have been a good game - seems like most people think it was - and it may even have been a good story - again, seems like most people think it was... until the 3rd act, when they pretend it's BG and the consensus seems to be that it kind of loses the thread a little. OR they could've simply told a completely unconnected story - like it seems they wanted to - without being beholden to any BG legacy, and then they wouldn't have had to shoe-horn in legacy characters. Seems like most people would've preferred that. Nobody FORCED Larian to make BG3; Nobody FORCED Larian to include BG1 (and 2) characters in BG3; nobody FORCED Larian to have to choose Minsc and Jaheira (and Sarevok and Viconia) as those legacy characters. I'm sure of it. (And I'd bet nobody forced Larian to choose this timeframe for their Forgotten Realms D&D game, although that I'm not sure of.)

I'm a little baffled at the backstory decisions Larian made, or had to make. Sometimes it felt more like they were just characters with the same name, mostly when it came to Viconia and Sarevok. Obviously you can't account for every single ending, but you can at least match up with the default endings for the characters. Viconia's matches up, since her default ending seems to be the one referenced in the game itself. But Jaheria's default ending says she never returns to the Sword Coast and remains distant with the Harpers. Minsc's ending leaves enough room to speculate, since he disappeared one day with Boo and is only presumed dead. Sarevok's is the same whether you change his alignment or not, but it does reference his lost love, Tamoko, and the fact that he returned to her homeland to bury her and never returned to the Sword Coast afterwards. I guess after that he could become the janitor of Bhaal's court... But it's a bit disappointing to see.
