I’m a church musician and a live sound professional for a few decades. While there are great experiences, I was also surprised by worship leaders allowing their friends or relatives to play and sing in spite that they don’t have the ability. I performed training to churches to smooth the differences between the worship teams and the audio team and how to cooperate with each other. If you are blessed with a good church, then more power to you but if the church is divisive and too political by curtailing your gifts and services, then consider leaving but resign in peace. Try not to burn bridges with anyone.

Well, today's generation of gospel musicians seems to make playing church music too difficult & worldly. it don't take all that what they be putting into those songs. I'm ole school, it really wasn't a job to me, even though I knew some other forms of music , I've giving up playing for churches cuz I was'nt being treated right. Too many ego tripping, show off keyboard players was trying to out do one another. I did it for the glory of the lord, not for pay, which was very low & few. Don't know if that spiritual interest will hit me again or not. But I still listen to church music to give me some peace of mind tho, that's about it. All my keyboards got stolen, which added to my stress, depression, anger, then quiting.

I have done what you have said in the past and it prepared me for my first paid church musician position, after years of only volunteering I just completed a year working for an amazing church that treated me very well.. Thanks for your tips, they can change the direction of many musicians lives for the better.

Very good video as usual. All good points. Your point about being diverse musically is very powerful for me. I started to diversify myself more as a musician around 2021, and because of that and the time I’ve committed to practicing all kinds of music, I feel like I’ve significantly improved my playing.

Go back to the classics of the 19th century. They are musically and theologically superior to current composition.

Good explanation of role of musicians. You guys effect spiritual experience of church going. Thatd why its important to know where you worship and who does the music.

12:21 True, but we aren’t trees. We are humans. As a metaphor, you mentioned the tree getting a lot of water and a lot of sunshine. That might be key also. If you’re planted somewhere that is not watering you, you might need to look at relocating. I’m specifically talking about spiritual watering, not clout or money.

Worship music should be all about praise and worship who God is and not to provide an experience to the spectator.

Personally, I don't believe church staff should be paid - including the pastor. Nor do I believe that churches need full bands and professional musicians. That money can be re-directed to supplement many of the financial shortcomings in hoods that many of these churches are located in.

If you've ever walked into a church service where there's no spirit, enthusiasm, the worship is dry and passionless, then you'd understand the need for professional musicians. Read 1 Chronicles 9:33 and Nehemiah 11:22-23 Musicians in the Bible were not only skilled but PAID. music is a church necessity, good sounding music is made by skilled musicians who spent years learning and perfecting their craft.

I respectfully disagree. In my opinion it's all ego and emotion. Full bands with professional musicians are not necessary for worship. You can still gather, praise, and have a lively spirit filled service without a polished band that's only there to entertain and collect a check.

I disagree. At least where I live, most churches are 0 to 200 in regular attendance, most churches don’t need more than one person on staff anyway, but the pastor should be paid for sure. A livable wage. The levites were provided for and I see it the same way. At least for my pastor, this is his full time job. He will never be a millionaire and shouldn’t be, but the church should def support him in the ministry.

Why .? What is your basis ?
@bxrokk

@@TheNoiserus1 My main basis is that the word of God is FREE. Paying people to serve in the church opens the door to corruption and ungodly competition. Pastors and musicians should be saved believers who are willing to make sacrifices and give of themselves out of loving service to the Holy Spirit and community. They should not be job seekers answering ads for a gig to financially support their lives. That's just my personal opinion.

I'm pretty sure Jesus never said anything about salvation being based on shirt type or if elbows are exposed. You might wanna think about 'judge not'. Sounds like you have a log in your eye.
