MacGowran -- a close friend of SB's -- had by this time been speaking extracts of the writing in this sort of way for decades, so forming a distinct entity of his own. Beckett resonates his approval by playing the gong between the sections. The correct title, incidentally, is *MacGowran Speaking Beckett*. And it's wonderful!
