People often overlook that the big food centres compete to attract the best-regarded street food businesses to trade there; this attracts local customers, and is a big factor in why so many of the food court feeds are so good!

Very true! Low or no shop rent prices to the best street food vendors is a very smart approach they have taken for sure :)

Welcome back to Bangkok, I live in the On Nut area and have to cross that road by Big C all the time. On Nut is a great area with tons of food, also in Phra Khanong. nearby. Theres a good foodcourt at Lotus's as well
