Do you throw winter rye seed down on top of the clay or cover the seed with compost? I’m gonna try your system here in Asheville but it looks like snow this weekend so maybe next week

@@fitzymon i have broadcast it right on top of the clay. But it was in early October. I don’t think it will do good if you plant it now.

So you just threw it on the red clay and did not cover it? Wow. I have a few acres to do but I’ll wait till next fall. I’ll send you a pic when it’s done

@ tarped for 1 year. Then I scratched up the surface with the neversink tilther. Then broadcast a 50 lb bag in a rain storm. It needs warmer temps to germinate. You need to heavily over seed. Birds will eat some, some will wash away. And some won’t germinate due to poor seed to soil contact.
