For example, it is important for someone who has just lost their job to understand their employment rights and to ensure the severance package they have been offered is fair and in accordance with the laws.

On the other side, an employer should speak with an employment lawyer before they terminate an employee. First an employer may have "just cause" to terminate an employee without a severance package. If an employee is going to be terminated "without cause", the employment lawyer could help the employer craft the severance package to ensure it meets all the legal requirements.
