@@haleighspeaks2115 I don’t know if this is what DJ drummer boy was talking about but I’m 46 (God willing 47 in 18 days) and black… and I saw this imagery in the 80’s as a young boy in the den of my Little Mama (my grandmother) and Daddy Richard’s(granddad) house where my Uncles and Aunts and parents and their friends would have Red light parties and dance to some of the best music I’ve ever heard in my life! Watching this video reminds me of those days so much community and love. Such a beautiful black experience that definitely contributes to the man I am today! ❤ Much love to you and have a blessed day!

I can remember my mother and father dancing together on this hunter green carpet in the living room when I was boy. Our mother was a fantastic dancer. Our father could only dance well if he was slow dancing. We had no furniture in the living room. My father set up some sort of lighting that made it look like a studio floor. The way they moved together was very much like a modern jazz duet. For those who know; WBLS in New York played very good music with Frankie Crocker as the DJ. I can recall how in sync they seemed to be. I could feel their love and passion for each other. I was always excited about growing up and becoming a man and finding a Black woman that I could vibe and grow with and make a family to pass on the love and affection I felt from them and through them. I still feel that way. I still remember that. I once asked them both what happened to make that change? My father said it was “the pressures”. He found the pressures of maintaining a family to be overwhelming and responded impatiently and violently. My mother who was 6 years younger than him, said that she was young and passionate and she believed in our father. She believed him to be the man he portrayed himself to be. Our father even admitted that she didn’t really do anything to him. He actually said it was he who did most of the doing. In that they both agreed. But when they broke up she was left with the majority of responsibilities to take care of herself and 4 boys. She told me that she did not want that. She never imagined she would have to be in that position. She said she wanted to be a wife and a mother. Not one or the other. So the pressures eventually became overwhelming for her too and she too responded in anger, frustration, rage and violence. My father said if he could do things differently; he wouldn’t have been so hard on his boys because we were just kids and we didn’t know anything about this world. I learned to love my woman and be patient with her. I learned to love and cherish my children regardless of my relationship with their mother. I also learned to express myself to my wife and to tell my children the truth of this world as often as I could and as soon as they started showing signs of comprehension and will. That imagery that was implanted in my head and the music that carried it helped mold my early development and motivated me to strive to provide that feeling for my family. The Pressures are real and unrelenting. Things do not go the way you want or expect. Not everyone, in fact most of us don’t (of every skin color) get this imagery and energy at home from the people who made them. It’s a rough ride for most of us because of it.
