In this Poetry Moment, Terrance Hayes reads the poem "Blue Seuss" from his book Wind in a Box. The rollicking rhymes in this poem mimic Dr. Seuss's children's books. But the subject is serious -- the history of Black Americans and the racist challenges they faced. Hayes uses rhythm and rhyme to play with historical concepts in this poem.
The London Review of Books said Hayes' book showed "the imaginative fervor of a poet in love with poetry."
Chania Hudson reads an introduction to offer context and background on the poet and the poem.
