Another brilliant cover by Terrance Shider! This is one of my many favorites from Terrance, although that list is so long! Composed by Tom Jobim.

May day transcription! Brazilian jazz is probably my favorite type of music :) Trivia for sheet music: Tom Jobim said a pianist had the best rendition of Wave he'd ever heard. Who was Jobim referring to?

Amazing, Timothy! I am a friend of your family from NY. I just started playing piano again after 40 years. It's so cool that I can read the notes again and follow along as you play. Ha! I'll never be able to play any of these wonderful transcriptions though! I had to go back to my beginner books, but I'm enjoying even the simple pieces. God bless!

Graphomaniac it’s a very difficult skill, I used to struggle with this a lot also. Trust me when I say that a lot of this will come to you with practice. Here are some things that I personally find helpful in developing this ability 1. Take a chord progression such as this one in Wave and try and play through it on a chordal instrument such as piano and guitar. The notes are all in front of you so take turns around the progression and try and sing the root of every chord. Then do the progression again and but then do the 3rd, the 5th, the 7th. You can do this for every value in the chord, such as the b9, #11 and any other complex sounds that you might want to familiarise yourself with. This will help your overall ability to hear and understand the contents in any chord. 2. You can transcribe almost anything by slowing it down enough. Something I like to do sometimes is play a note on my instrument that I can imagine being there, such as the 3rd of the chord and then try to specifically listen out for that note in the chord when it is slowed down. From there it can become quite easy to determine whether or not a note is truly there. In theory you can do this for any note in any chord, but sometimes a lot of patience maybe required. 3. Sometimes using software to bump the entire recording up by an octave helps even more, especially if it gets muddy in the low register. The Amazing Slow Downer and Transcribe are helpful softwares for the exact purpose of transcribing. I hope this was helpful, I do a lot of transcribing myself and my ability to hear and understand music has improved immeasurably.
